I might be wrong (often am) but we don't seem to have a real fans favourite player in this current set up. When I say fans favourite I mean a player that would go through brick walls for Ipswich Town and be our talisman on the pitch to rally the troops and get the crowd onside. We used to have Pablo as a fans favourite eventhough he was a bit lazy and I guess that Johnny Walters was a favourite too. Looking at the present squad there doesn't seem to be that one player that unites all the fans and a name that we sing over and over at Portman Road. Michael Chopra perhaps if he keeps on banging the goals in, JET but I think he will be a player who will forever divide the fans opinion, Bullard threatened to be until he started showing his true colours and his total loss of form, Drury could well be if he continues running the midfield and then we have Hyam! A local Ipswich lad who has done very well and has all the work rate, desire and hunger that as fans we all recognise and love to see. Even Carlos Edwards is winning some fans over with his buccaneering performances of late but there isn't one potentially great player that we can all rally around like we had in seasons gone by. The list of my all time favourites will definately be among everyone elses on this board. The likes of Micky Stockwell, Matty Holland, Mogga, Beattie, Warky, Hunter, Butcher, Tarricco, Pablo, DeVos, Stewie, Fabian Wilinis and even for a brief while Sixto Peralta and Gio when he was here on loan! Every team needs a talisman to galvanise the team and to act a focal point for the fans to get behind and support. I fear that at the moment we are lacking a special character, there aren't the special songs any more for certain players in the SBR like we used to have.
For me it has to be 'Grant Leadbitter' There is nobody in the current Town team that gets me fired up like he does, if he is playing then watch out WCP or PTC, i am far more vocal than usual!!
Good point Warky. Watching Micky Stockwell play filled me with energy and pride and I expect it did that to the other players on the pitch and the manager. Jaime Peters sort of has that quality but unfortunately he lacks a lot of footballing ones.
This team has been chopped and changed so much over the last 3 years that I suppose that no one player has had the time to become a real firm favourite with the fans. The high number of loanees tells its own sorry story!
....don't you find that worrying! Shefki Kuqi when he used to swallow dive after he scored or Herman when he first arrived. I remember him diving into the SBR (old north stand) when he scored. Real characters that we loved to see on the pitch.
Delaney Although Edwards loves us after not getting banged up I don't love him back though. Carra's got a picture of him in his wallet......

Had the owner of a local company come out and price up. Very nice chap who didn't give me any sales crap - he just measured up, said how much and ****ed off. Luvly jubbly.
I think you've answered your own question JWM... we've had years of mediocrity with far too many in's and out's. It looks as though we might get a bit of stability over the next year with only a few players coming in and being sold so hopefully that talisman will come about soon enough! My bet is on JET!
I'm with Big Al on this one... Martin has to be our stand out player at the moment, and definitley should get the player of the year. Chops has done well of late, but wouldn't have got half of his goals without Martin supplying them. But then, there's Drury, another player who has exceeded expectaions, and has done a sterling job in marshalling the midfield, and of course protecting our back four.
Tommy Smith has started to score goals from corners and sure looks proud when he scores. The strong celebration of two fists out to the side whilst facing our fans tells you everything!!!
It should be Bullard as he has the personality and ability but is a liabilty... Out of the current squad i think it could be Jet... Just need a song for him ..
