<peacedove>.After the game between Tottenham and Arsenal yesterday, there was a debate about who is going to finish fourth at the end of the season, Glenn Hoddle
believes it is for Tottenham .It seems first , second, and third has been decided
already.According to Glenn Hoddle it is two horse race, even thouigh Newcastle United
is currently occuping the fourth position.Tottenham have a game in hand and winning their game in hand they would go above Liverpool.Your comments.

Still early. Let's see how Europe bodes for them and the others as well, Newcastle have yet to play any of the big teams ( bar a distraught Arsenal). I can see us and Tottenham going at it but again very early to start playing Mrs. Cleo for me, wait until january and the feeling can be a bit different.

They are on a role but a solid win against United for us might help us hit a vein of rich form that can see us jump back ahead ( if they win their game in hand).

Unfortunatly i can see Tottenham getting the place, - i say this reluctantly but they just seem to be playing better than us at the moment (us being Liverpool). It will be a tight run thing and wouldn't be suprised if we got the position but with Tottenhams new strike force of Adebayor and solid keeper i think there team is stronger than ours. However they have to play in europe, i know they are only playing youngsters in the competition but when they get into the Knockout rounds they will take it more seriously and i can only hope have a continatal hangover. It will be exciting and would love to see us on a Wednesday night on ITV next season.

I doubt it will be Newcastle. I don't think their squad has the legs to keep going at the rate it takes to finish 4th this season. Spurs are doing very well but they could lose players in January which would hurt them. I think we need to start humping teams by more then 3 goals. Utd, Spurs, Chelsea & City have all done it and I think we need to do it as well. I'm still nervous before the games I should be relaxed about and the team are doing little to apease me

    first off the newcastle thing.

lets just call a spade a spade here and highlight just a few occasions when similar starts have occurred. Hull... sunderland.... blackpool.... lets just say sides with small squads can over 7 games get a flier but COME ON! if anyone thinks this side will stay in the top 6 all year, well i've news for them!

second the spurs things..... ermmm... hang on but this side just got lucky against one of the worst arsenal sides in 20 years when their keeper basically flogged walker a goal... good shot but the keeper should have stopped that all day! so IF they win v everotn in thier match in hand... wow they go a whole two points clear after 7 games... but if they draw they are actually behind us on GD!!!!

nice reasoning there mr hoddle <laugh> honestly its like the spurs faithful (him included) want us to forget the two spankings they got handed.

there is a nice even means of answering this question....... arsenal fans land pundits are saying top 6 now! thats BIG! any reasoned fans would then come to the conclusion that well the sides that automatically come to mind are spurs and liverpool who are the teams that have finished 4th before! thats fair enough but there are a few other sides that have some nice things going for them. Villa, stoke and a couple more... but i nthe end it has to come back to whos the strongest sides.

finally i think Utd and City are going to dominate this and chelsea may trail in closely.

Unfortunately for you I cannot see Tottenham getting the place. Liverpool after playing the skanks at home have a decent run of games for the foreseeable future with the exception of the trip to Stamford Bridge stuck in between. That doesn't hold any fear for us as we won there convincingly last season, even though the score-line didn't reflect our dominance.

I don't know about any of you, but its my opinion that Liverpool won't and shouldn't play the skanks with any fear. They have the beating of them. If Kenny gets his tactics spot on and that is going with the extra man in midfield, then we have a massive chance. They cannot handle players hustling and harrying their central midfield. Lucas hustles and harries and annoys and bullies better than anyone.

The second scenario is once we've wore them down, the plan must be to put Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy on with the one intention of going after De Gea and putting the wind up him, and force him into mistakes. Carroll with his size and Bellamy just by being Bellamy. Both are capable of annoying the hell out of him. Its part of Suarez' natural game to annoy defenders. Its what he's best at.

I still think Liverpool, based purely on the fact that the Europa League will take it out of Tottenham's squad.

Spurs in the driving seat no doubt about it. We'll see towards the end of the season. Our defeat was a killer.

    Newcastle will end up 7/8th.

The Bookies think Liverpool will pip Tottenham and finish 4th.

I think it will come down to whether or not King can stay fit for Spurs and Gerrard for Liverpool.
January window will be very interesting.

Our defeat was not a killer. It was a very poor performance without doubt and its was a reality check. However, we have the rest of the season to prove that we have learnt the lesson.

As for Spurs being in the driving seat, it is far too early to make such a claim. If you consider that against a very poor Liverpool they only truly won the game after we were reduced to 9 men. Again, against Arsenal they only secured victory due to a goalkeeping error. There are still many questions to be answered about them.

Glenn Hoddle is a dick; the season lasts 38 games.

Nobody even gets a good view of who's going to finish 4th until the 25 game mark.

It will go to the wire, with Spuds or Pool getting 4th unless Arse suddenly go on a major win streak

I think it is our best opportunity to get back into the Top 4 considering Arsenals poor season. Hopefully they won't recover anytime soon!

I believe 4th place is between Spurs and Liverpool. Had Spurs not signed Adebayor and Parker, I would have said we are miles better than them and I'd be more confident of clinching 4th place. But they do a look a lot more efficient and they are in good form.

I think it's impossible to say right now simply as form now is meaningless as utd proved by winning the league last year! feb-may is the deciding period where form is a must so if we finish strongly we can take 4th.

If suarez tires badly after his copa exploits... well thats the worry.

thats also a fair point, though as we all know bale is a jumped up left full so he really ought to go back there and secure a move to abig club and develop from there...... pavalechenko can cover adebayor and bassong is rubbish anyway...

arsenal are already a write off according to thier own pundits...

all in all i think once christmas is out of the way the team that displays the best form will take 4th. thats all about momentum so suarez can moan and whine all he likes coming off cos i know kenny has his mind on that period of time and knows he needs him then..... players need protection from themselves sometimes.

It depends on our league position when we are playing the following games, and their results also.
    1.04/02/11-Tottenham (h)
    2.11/2/11-Man Utd (a)
    3.25/2/11-Everton (h)
    4.03/03/11-Arsenal (h)
    5.10/03/11-Sunderland (a)
    <ok>
