Depends on what you consider to be world class. In football terminology the goalposts can be easily moved depending on what your own opinion is. If Harry Kane isn't world class then I'll have trouble thinking of more than a handful of Sweaties who are. I think most pundits would rate Kenny Dalglish as top drawer and he played for the then best/most successful club in the world (statistically) and cleaned up as far as honours went. Anyone else?
Jim Baxter and Davie Cooper are the only world class players ever to come out of Scotland. Can't think of any English wans so it must be Scotland.
Sorry ya durty ***** but Dalgliesh never played for the famous Glasgow Rangers. He always wanted to though. Just wisne good enough.
No need to apologise you wife battering pissy-pants pugilist. May I take this opportunity to say I've never heard of Jim Baxter or Davie Cooper. Possibly before my time?
Define 'world class' and I'll try and answer you. Seriously, what the **** does 'world class' actually mean? It's an utterly vacuous statement.
Well if you havent heard of those two legends of the game you are unqualified to discuss this subject. Stick to deed kids ya horrible nonce.
Difficult to give a precise and narrow definition however I will try. Let's look at some guidelines: 1. The player must, for a continuous period of say five years in his career, be considered in the top three in his position. 2. The above does not guarantee classification as 'World Class' but, in most cases, be sufficient. 3. Consideration would be given to both club and international success in the currently accepted three major tournaments but again does not preclude individuals from 'smaller' nations or who play for 'lesser' clubs. 4. My judgement would be that at any time it would be difficult to have more than, say forty players, deemed to be world class; think about a pool of players chosen to play against Uranus. Shoot me down ya bums!
Of course I am biased; f**k me, football at both club and international levels is illogical, tribal. perverse and ultimately orgasmic! World class Bavarians; Paul Breitner, Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sepp Maier ............. Lothar Matthaus.
Not sure either but maybe this might help ie who would get in this team Greatest XI of all time[edit] The list is based on votes of 73 experts around the world. I remember this team selected selected by a panel of six well known to UK television ex-internationals leading up to, I think, the 2014 World Cup. Dino Zoff Kafu - my choice Paul Breitner Moore - my choice Daniel Passarella Beckenbauer Maldini Garrincha Zidane Lothar Matthaus Zico Pele - my choice Mario Kempes Maradona Love these simple pass times. Just a wee note; my Dad, who passed away in the early 1980's, always told me Alfredo di Stefano was the finest player he had ever seen (live or on TV). He was lucky enough to have been at Hampden Park in 1960 to see Real Madrid - Eintracht Frankfurt.
Must they be Scottish and English nationals or players who spent the defining moments of their careers in these 2 countries leagues?
That would be silly and nonsensical although it would likely be included as a prerequisite if the discussion/choice/vote was held by the 'experts', commentators, pundits on or listeners to talkSport!
