A shrewd move for a well-regarded, consistent winger from League Two, particularly as he was a free transfer. I hope he can push on and reward Paul Hurst's faith. It's looking likely that we'll be sourcing our personnel from the lower leagues, which is one of the reasons why Hurst was chosen, and provides a welcome break from ageing footballers from the Premier League and tenacious Irishmen! My main concern is hoping that they will make the jump and adapt to Championship football.
Get your cheque book out Evans or fook off! The majority of town fans might believe all this bollox but while the likes of Stoke, Forest,Bristol.Swansea and Middlesbrough and Derby are buying decent players we are scrummaging around in the bargain basement again! Evans you are a charlatan! Always have been and always will be!
Warky, we've tried the 'throw millions at it' approach at promotion, and we failed badly. We tried signing old pro's and players with Premier League experience approach, which had varying degrees of success and failure under Mick, but ultimately we didn't achieve promotion. I believe a majority of fans, and indeed several on this very forum, have expressed the desire to start signing young, talented, and eager players from the lower leagues. It's one of the reasons why Paul Hurst was such a popular managerial appointment, because he represents that change of approach in the transfer market. Yes, we're still going to be relying upon free transfers here and there, and yes, we'll still probably have a few loanees in the squad. Hopefully the Webster money will be reinvested, but if it is, expect more signings from Leagues 1 and 2, plus a couple of Championship players I imagine, because I'm pretty confident this is what it will be like going forward.
Just read the statement from ME regarding Webster and he said The money received from Webster`s sale will be handed over to Hurst for recruitment
How many times have we heard that from the people at the top of this club though? Personally, I'll believe it when I see a noticeable investment in recruitment.
Low risk, with potentially high reward. Not overly excited. But Hurst very quickly identified wingers were needed and has now actually gone and got some. I don't see how signing a relatively young ambitious player from a lower league on a free is any better or worse than signing a player who has only played in academy leagues. Creswell Walters and Ming's spring to mind. Let's let them play before we judge.
Under Burely we always used to sign lower league players who I'd never heard of mixed in with a few experienced pro's and academy players
