I've made my opinion perfectly clear, I don't rate Mignolet at all, and I would rather have Brad Jones than him, but you may feel that his showy shot blocking skills make up for his total lack of any command of his own box, leaving the defence to struggle, because he stays glued to his line, and his shocking distribution. You may feel Pepe lacks commitment, or you may have another choice, what with Vorn falling out of favour at Swansea. So who would you put in goal next season, and why? Personally I'd welcome Pepe back with open arms. He still has a lot of good will from me, for his sprint up the OT pitch to be the first to celebrate with David N'gog
Ideal world Pepe and Mig fight it out for number one. More likely Reina sold cheaply and Mig is number one. Mig is the long term option unless he has a shocking season, need to get behind him.
think the problem is more the defence than the goalie, we had the same problems with pepe. agree with ibwt, would like to see the 2 battle it out for no1, but migs is the future pepe is the past. i am quite happy with brad, more than i was any way lol, but i think he should be 3rd choice not 2nd.
Did we seriously? We had the same problems.... We couldn't defend a set piece to save our lives the season before last, this season we got to grips a bit but noble is right in that mingolet is not a sweeper style and he can't kick or pass. Reina is gone though and won't get back in so it's pointless.... We should have sold rather than loaned
Mignolet can only get better. Reina is old. Some of the goals conceded last season our back four have to be blamed.
Mignolet could have taken so much pressure off the defence if only he would come for more stuff, the fact that he stays glued to his goal line puts so much pressure on the back four. I say the problem is more with him than the back four.
We'll see next season, he's only had one season with us, it's a bit harsh to write him off this early.
First season, new team, new defense who already lack an established leader and still young for a goalkeeper. I think he'll grow into the role and confidence to command his box now that he's settled. I also think it's a bit harsh to constantly criticise his distribution because, honestly, it's not terrible. Sure, it's not on the level of Reina and he won't be launching counter attacks with a 60 yard pin point throw to Suarez, but it's not exactly poor. He rarely gives it away and he's mostly been fine with it at his feet as we pass it around the box. We've just been blessed with Pepe recently, but as far as goalkeepers go, he's not bad at it. Maybe next summer we can look at where Migs is at...but not now, too early.
Migs for me, Pepe won't be back for two reasons. Hard to come back after his Scarlett O'Hara performance. His wages are too high for a sub. As much as I think Migs needs competition (like any position) Pepes days with us are over. I think it was a vicious circle last year...over exposed centrbacks kept falling back as matches went on and pushed on to Migs. A more dominant personality would have screamed and shoved them forward again or at least come out and punched them in the back of the head a few times. Although I remember at the end Migs trying to come out and dominate and clashed with Skrts and it ended in a goal, so didn't come out next time and.....it ended in a goal... Need a solid consistent pairing at CB, upgrade at RB and a DM that doesn't have the emotional maturity and discipline of a 14 year old. That will help Migs become confident.
If it was a choice of Minger or Pep I'd go Reina any day of the week....however BR won't bring Reina back so I voted other. Ming was one of the biggest problems we had last year. Whatever anybody says about full backs and centre backs having a keeper who is so poor at commanding those around him is a recipe for disaster....nervousness in a keeper spreads quicker than the clap in Page Moss
