would be interested to know your views on who you would see as a good bet for next season and how do you think the gills will do.
Unfortunatley given the resources Rotherham should walk it, Southend and Fleetwood should also be there or there abouts. Gills probably just miss out on the playoffs again, but I may revise that depending on the who new manager is and how / where we strengthen
With the calm and quiet way they have progressed over the last few years my tip for next season is Aldershot Town!
Obviously with the more infomation you have the better chance you have of getting it right but 1) you get better odds if you bet now and 2) where is the fun in waiting to the least minute?!
Wycombe and Chesterfield do appear to be a tad dangerous. I think Lewis will come play a decent role this season for Wycombe and I think Richards was an astute signing for the spireites. Rotherham, Southend, Bristol Rovers, Oxford and us in my eyes fill up the remainder of the top seven; that's in no particular order I just think these teams will be in the mix.
I have absolutely no idea at this moment in time who will win it. However, if I have to make a choice, I would love to see AFC Wimbledon win it any day and come against that MK lot. Would make my day even more if the MK lot got relegated at the same time.
We will be relegated...a nearly team is being dissected over the summer when all that was needed was a good coach. So sure am I of this I'm not renewing my season tickets and will be quite happy to sit in the bms if we are top by some miracle.
I think it will be probably Wycombe who win the league personally with Bristol Rovers up there aswell as Gillingham, then I think the play offs will be Chesterfield, Rotherham, Southend and also someone who we do not expect to be up there maybe someone like Plymouth or York.
I have a hunch that one of the 'Sleeping Giants' ( Bradford/Bristol/ Plymouth ) will suddenly wake up this season and take us all by suprise. As for Gills, if they remain with a 'Bargain Basement' defence again, they will not make it. Spending all the pot recruiting and retaining goal scorers only has proved a false economy in the past. Good News about Essam signing though. Get him some worthy defensive team mates and watch this space!
Yeah people such as Frampton and Martin I think are the problems, if we don't want to play Jackman at left back then we need a new Left back aswell as a decent centre back, not one that ****s up all the time, this has always been our problem over the years, we have not had a decent enough defence, I am not sure who to play at Right back as Fish is not my favourite, but I think he is getting better, Evans is good but quiet young, but needs game time as he will be a good player, but Fuller will be back from injury and I think I would keep him at the club and put him back at Right back as he is a good player, I know he is not everyone's favourite but since he has been injured we have not had a permanent right back who could play all the time, we have had to swap around a bit. With Regards to Frampton he is the overall main problem, I personally would be happy for us to pay him off and get rid of him, he is one of the worst signings made by the club, did not think he would be bad when I see we signed him, I thought he would be good but I am wrong and also for him to be captain is a joke, hopefully a new manager will change that and bring in a better captain. I think we could do with someone who is not too slow at centre back to partner Essam, someone who is about 6"3 or 6"4 and is rather strong as that sort of player would fit in well with Essam. I think Martin should only be a back up player, he is not bad but he is not always good enough, if he was to get better then maybe but a new left back is required, other than that not many other players are needed, only a striker and a few back up players to make up the number to replace the players we have got rid of, I think instead of spending money on strikers maybe to make a change a bit of cash spent on the defence could make it a lot better as the last decent defender we spent money on with King but since then we have spent nothing more than around 80k on defenders which is not good enough, you can't keep on signing free transfer defenders as many of them are free for a reason as many clubs don't want them or they are getting old or they are not good enough so we don't want them sort of players, they are back up type of players.
Good post Hoadie. I think you have hit the nail right on the head. Let's hope lessons have been learned. I was lucky enough to see the Gills 4th Div Champions(League 2) side of the 1960's which was built on a solid/ever present defence & a class goalie, that went fifty odd home games undefeated.(inc 3rd Div (League 1) after promotion) Defenders never suspended/ hardly ever missed games through injury. A Rock of Ages!
Never known us to have much of a good run at home, only the season we got relegated from League 1 where we only lost 2 times at home.
Personally I think fleetwood will be up their as well as Bristol rovers,Oxford and southend as well as us but I think barnet will struggle as well as burton
