Realastically who can we overtake? .Forget about Chelsea and Manchester City. Manchester United is 8 points above us and they are coming to Anfield in the new year. We have to play Southampton away, they are are 5 points above us also we have to play Arsenal at the Emirates who have similar point tally with Southampton, they both have better goal differences. Both Tottenham and West Ham are on 31 points 3 points ahead of us. To be in the Champion League next season i.e finishing at least fourth in the league we need to beat Arsenal Southampton, West Ham and Tottenham to it. Manchester United 36 points currently 3rd in the league Southampton and Arsenal 33 points currently joint 4th in the league. Can we do it.
To be perfectly honest, with the exception of probably ourselves and City, the other top 4 places are still anyones really. 6 points is nothing when you have 19 games left. You need to go on a run of wins and get some confidence back.....look at Arsenal a few years back, looked well out of the top 4, 25 games in, all it took was a run of wins, some confidence and a dodgy lasgane, and they were right back in it
Well its happened before I suppose, but I cannot see United or anyone else catching up with us and City if I am honest. The two teams are so much better than everyone elses at the moment, not just player wise, but manager wise, teams are settled etc. Everyone else seems very unbalanced, in transition, or very dodgy form wise. Still time for teams to turn it around but I think City and Chelsea being top 2 (in either order) is a safe bet.
We'll beat QPR New Year's Day and Gerrard will be playing the next game so it's guaranteed we'll jump back up above you
Yea top two places are City and chelseas, I can see us pipping spurs, hammers, saints, its the old foes in utd and arsenal that I wouldn't be too confident about but in saying that, there aint much in it, its gonna get interesting
utd fans like uir point out regulalry in their won special way we were closer the bottom than 4th... well they are closer to us than the top so they can think on too. in the end lads we've beaten lower half teams so don't get all carried away!!! think about it.. we have a lot of improvement to do here. january requires real reinforcement of 8th is highly likely
They are all within reach. To be realistic, the top 2 will be Chelsea and city in whatever order and everyone else can forget about it. The places up for grabs are 3rd and 4th. The problem is not the points gap but the number of clubs in front of us. Last season, at this point we were near or at the front and we had Suarez. I can see some of the challengers faltering but not all of them to let us through. If the mancs and arsenal keep their run, we need to do BETTER than last season in the second half of the season. It will take some doing. The mancs were collapsing at this stage while now they seem to be more competitive. Southampton on the evidence of their Chelsea match will win more than they lose and Arsenal will always be around the 4th place. Realistically it is possible but not likely. I would money on a 5th place. The bookies are rarely wrong are they?
The encouraging thing is that we've played so poorly and without Sturridge but still only 5 points off top 4. Through suspension and injuries, looks like Rodgers has now stumbled on his best team which he needs to persist with. He cannot go back to playing Markovic and Hendo as wing backs or bringing Gerrard in along side Lucas.
We can pass all but the top 2 - that's not because City and Chelsea are truly that much better but it's the existing points gap that makes it almost impossible. Now that sounds silly and Bodnockers will think it scandalous but when you think about it, it is possible. As far as LFC are concerned we have started to turn a corner. By accident or design a new mixture of players and ways of employing them is starting to emerge. We may be able to buy in the 'window' and Sturridge is closer to a return. Last night showed a new confidence in the team and that will ( I hope) improve from now on. Saints, WHU have probably played their best football in the 1st half of the season and are more likely to drop away than push on. United have had a little very lucky run but I can see them too dropping off the pace. Arsenal are even more huff and puff than usual. The really dark horses are the Spuds. Now they appear to be relying on 1 player and as we know that can be a very damgerours tactic.
If we want 4th or better still 3rd we need to win 15 games in the second half of the season, otherwise we're looking at 5th at best
Agree Southampton and West Ham will probably drop off. Man Utd's season has been frontloaded with easy fixtures (they are still a point BEHIND what Moyes did in the same games), the only question is whether confidence/momentum it's gifted them will be enough for them to continue challenging for top 4. Despite their experience in limping over the line Arsenal could easily bottle it. If Sanchez is injured they are ****ed. Spurs are ****e and it's unlikely their luck will last the season.
This is all rather..... "Optimistic" that's being nice to fellow lfc fans We've got 7 out of last 9 points. That's great, but focus on the next game only and stop getting carried away with turning corners. We recently tossed the cl away and had a terrible run so let's just say Leicester is up next and not start assuming Rodgers will stick with this line up etc etc
Erm...why do you think there is such a huge points gap? Because City and Chelsea are currently the best teams in the league. I will concede anything can happen though, I just dont see you hitting the heights of last season myself, not without Suarez. Top 4 is very possible for you though if you put a run together, but I think turning a corner may be a tad premature, you form in the last 10 games is won 4, drawn 2, lost 4. Hardly an impressive run of results. You get another win or two in the next couple of games, then we can start calling that a run. My money has always been on Arsenal getting 3rd and United 4th. But you guys, Spurs, WHU and Saints are still in with a shout.
There's a massive points gap because they're much, much better than you. Yet more stunning logic from the King of the deludeds
Very generous assessment of Pellegrini. Nice guy but pretty hopeless. With the squad he has he should be winning the league at a canter.
Which manager(s) in the PL could you honestly say is better than him though, Jose and LvG......thats it.... Maybe Koeman?
