Who do you think would be the best manager for us based on the football they like their teams to play?
I'm hoping that whoever we get in as manager won't scrap the passing football ethos that NB instilled in the players last season, but I would like to see our forwards being more ruthless in the final third.
Ideally I reckon we need two new strikers and one of them should be a big bugger (to give us a plan B). We should also play two up front at home and sometimes away - depending on the opposition.
I know I'm only addressing the attack, but goals have been our achilles heel for two seasons and if we can get that problem sorted we will have a great chance.
I'm not clued up enough to say who could deliver all this but maybe some of you are?

OMG! Not another new manager thread! How many do we need? Are the opinions mentioned on the 25 other threads about the same topic not enough??!! <doh>

If you don't like it, don't comment.
    Or **** off.
    Or both.

Personally I don't mind if we play the exact type of football we tried under Barmby. We still played an entertaining, vibrant brand of football under Brown without trying to look like Barcelona.

As long as we don't play Pulis or Pearson football, I'm happy.

Devil's advocate... what if we play that sort of football and get promoted?

Paulo Sergio at Hearts plays nice attacking football, as does Sean O'Driscoll. IMO, our problem this season wasn't putting the ball in the net, it was getting the ball to the striker so they had a chance. Playing 4-2-3-1 is good, but you still only have one up front, a position which isn't really suited to MF at all. Yeah, he managed 16 goals, which is pretty nice going, but he could have had more had he another forward in front of him.

If we can get a goalie in, why not just try the traditional 4-4-2? (Using what we have)

    ----------Oxley--------------

    Rosenior--Chester--Bradley----Dawson

    Stewart ------Koren ----Evans ---- Dudgeon

    --------------Fryatt------Cullen

Always a tough one, but even if we were in the Premier League, I'm pretty sure I'd get bored to hell watching that crap every week.

True but I bet Stoke fans enjoyed their European adventure last season!

That's good if we sign a CB, winger, CM, a striker and a GK

In fairness, Pearson laid the foundations for the football we played under Barmby and it was never anywhere near as negative as people made out. Particularly this season when NP was still here we went into every away game trying to attack, whereas every team that came to us in that time played for a draw.

We hardly have any players contracted for next season but of the ones we do have the standout players are probably Chester, Rosenior, Evans, Koren, Stewart so we should be playing to their strengths. The key is Koren though, where do you fit him in? Pearson preferred to have him on the wing and play two up front which was perfectly understandable and Barmby preferred him in the hole with only one striker. They both worked well at times and not as well at other times.

I guess McCarthy would have us playing attacking and effective football, but I can't see him coming.

Sadly the Allams have just sacked that person. I would suggest a good book for matchdays or buy the programme.

You don't half over-react sometimes Tickler. Are you seriously suggesting that NB is the only manager who's team plays attractive football??? <doh>

We missed a trick when we didn't go for O'Driscoll, he would have ticked most, if not all, the boxes and I'm sure he'd have jumped at the chance to join us.

Not for one bit. But i also dont expect the Allams to replace Nick with someone who has the same footballing principals. Ok ? <doh>

In hindsight City should have gone for O'Driscoll back in January with Nick as No.2 and that would be ticked a few more boxes. imo.

Totally agree he would have been a solid manager, for me Karl Robinson gets his teams to play football and on a tight budget, he would be my top choice

When we get either Bruce or Mick, I'll be glad we missed out on some of the names mentioned, although I agree some of them are not bad options, I rate both Bruce and Mick higher.

So I think either of Bruce or Mick will deliver what we want.

I really hope we get either of them. I can't help thinking that neither will want to come to us, mainly due to better jobs in the offing though. If we do get one of them we can put it down solely to great work by the Allams. It's only fair I guess, as they will get vilified if we get someone cack.

I wasn't initially convinced with either but as someone said, if one of our opponents picked them up we'd be sat here thinking they'd done well.
