OK peeps, a little game. Just finished reading about this footballer- he has led one hell of a life.I will describe his life a little at a time and lets see if anyone knows who he is.

I was a German paratrooper in WW2, whilst fighting in Russia I was decorated 5 times and won the Iron Cross 1st class. I was captured by the Russians but escaped. I was sent to France for the Normandy landings was captured by the French resistance- escaped, then by Americans-escaped and finally by British troops. First words my captors said were- hello Fritz, fancy a cup of tea? I was sent to a POW camp in England..... more to follow

too good for me, other clues were

endured years of racial abuse, often being called a nazi bastard when playing in London. Most famous for playing the last 15 minutes of 1956 FA cup final with a broken neck after saving at the feet of an attacker, made a stunning last minute save for my team to win 3-2. When picking up my medal Prince Philipe commenented on the strange angle of my head.played 545 games for my club but never picked to play for Germany, as they only picked players playing in Germany. Had a 60% save rate with penalties. Was generally aknowledged as one of the top two keepers of the era, started the practice of keepers throwing the ball out to start the attack Was awarded the OBE in 2005. I went to war with a battalion of 1000 men- 100 survived, a true survivor
