As title suggests, who do you think is to blame for what has been a disaster so far, including the PSR shambles that’s seen the best potential RW we’ve had for a long time let go.
It’s difficult to say. You could add the PL and the big six. They have engineered the problem of navigating FFP. Chelsea seemingly can do whatever they want. And transfer prices are just bonkers. Average players going for 50m plus. Maybe PIF have decided they have ****ed up and that the cost to win is far too great and no chance of a return on investment. £75 for Guehi just blows my mind.
Ashworth going when he did and the time it took to agree a settlement clearly screwed us a bit early doors, but would have expected to see some action by now. Have to think it's really a combo of Mitchell, Howe and the scouting team, as they could still have been identifying players and drawing up a plan before Mitchell joined. And he has had time to negotiate deals now. Unless he just hasn't agreed with whatever the plan was and they had to start all over again - in which case, it sits firmly with Mitchell. Now that's not to say he's in the wrong, maybe he'd be right to disagree with whatever plan he walked into. We'll probably never know.
Don't think it's PIF or Eales. I think they are just doing their best to work within the rules and not fall foul of any punishments. As GG says, they are working under difficulty enforced by others. Just a pity Mitchell didn't have a bit more time to agree a plan this window. That said, we've been linked to other players and sounded close to signing, but Chelsea steamed in last minute, then Thiaw's deal just seemed to fizzle out and then Palace don't want to sell Guehi.
It’s been a poor window. The scouts are to blame for me. Partly Howe because he’s probably indicated he wants established PL players. The club because we should have had a replacement in for Ashworth months before. The last minute FFP shambolic mess selling two players on the day of June 30th probably detracted the club from focusing on signings. And FFP itself. With clubs implementing the NUFC tax (PIF) and other things have made this window pretty damn poor. 3/10 so far.
Aww bitchin in the transfer thread wasn't enough for you, so you needed your own little thread for it.
Good point. I blame it on @Roland Deschain I reckon if we don't sign anyone now he'll be in his happy place.
