    as things stand ?

A big debate at work today has got me wondering am I right or am I wrong.

    Top 3 - CL
    4th - CLQ
    5th - EL
    6th - QEL
Lge cup winner/runner up - ELQ
FA cup winner/runner up - EL
Fair play winner ??? - ELQ
    ---------------------------------

    So as things stand it´s...

    1. Manc Poo - CL
    2. Man City - CL
    3. Arsenal - CL
    4. Spurs - CLQ
    5. Newcastle - EL
    6. Chelsea EL - as FA cup winners or runners up
    7. Liverpool EL - Lge cup winner
    8. Cardiff EL - Lge cup runners up if Liverpool wins the FA cup & Chelsea finish 6th in the lge

Nows the problem. What happends to the FA cup in terms of who goes into europe as both Liverpool & Chelsea will be in europe in some way shape or form anyway ? There must be a place still up for grabs because of it ? Does this then go to Cardiff as lge cup runners up & it there a fair play lge & does the winner of that also go into the EL. Do we get 8 teams in europe ???

Have I explained this right ? my head hurts :emoticon-0141-whew:

Cardiff won't qualify, it'll pass down to the EPL next highest team, usually it's top 4 CL, 5th place and cup winners for the Europa. Fair play is a joker card that can be a team from many leagues. I think!

    They can.

It was confirmed when Cardiff were in FA cup final that if they won they'd qualify for europe

If Liverpool win the FA Cup this is where things get complicated. Because they would go the Europa league through winning the Carling cup so the Europa league space for the FA Cup would be free. Chelsea will either get 4th place or finish in a europa league spot through the league so who would take the FA Cup spot. Or would it pass over to the finalists of the Carling cup which would put Cardiff in the Europa league

Liverpool would take the FA Cup spot I think because that gives them automatic qualification to the group phase whereas the Carling Cup puts them in the qualifiers. So this leaves the Carling Cup place open which would go to 6th in the league rather than Cardiff. So, as I understand it, the Europa League places would be so:

    Liverpool - FA Cup
    5th Place
    6th place

If Chelsea won the FA Cup and finished 5th, then they would take the FA Cup place so it would then be

    Chelsea - FA Cup
    Liverpool - Carling Cup
    6th place
