They know there's a much bigger club down the road with a similar name, right?

It seems #****ehawk is a popular pet name Brighton fans have on Twitter for their neighbours, Whitehawk is a rather grotty council estate apparently.

They already had a change to Brighton and Hove City FC rejected previously.

Beaconsfield SYCOB have also applied to change their name to Beaconsfield Town, which seems a rather more sensible one.

Apparently they became Beaconsfield SYCOB after Beaconsfield United merged with Slough Youth Club Old Boys, but I don't think anyone really thought it through.

It seems no-one is objecting to this one.

Whitehawk fans oppose “Brighton City” name change

19 January ~ Whitehawk supporters have a launched a petition asking for their owners to reconsider changing the club’s name to Brighton City. Whitehawk yesterday confirmed that they have entered discussions with the FA about the name change, which has happened without any consultation with fans.

The petition against the move argues: “Not only is the current name unique, but the team's amazing FA Cup run this year offered a great amount of exposure for Whitehawk. The club is not as obscure as it's being assumed and it's not difficult for people to find out the information they need online. Even if a person was to know the club was in Brighton, they'd still have to find out where the ground is, which would involve sifting through a load of Albion information. Not only is the Whitehawk name unique, but it has 70 years of history and links to the surrounding community.”

That's easily solved. Start a "Yes to Brighton City" petition and see how it goes.

I see they're experiencing the usual problem, i.e. other people not connected with the club sticking their oar in, voting in polls, petitions, axe grinding etc.

The Whitehawk chairman met with the fans yesterday, he stood on the terrace with them for their game against Colchester and then withdrew the name change application this morning. I love a bit of common sense.
