It is with a heavy heart that I start this thread, but I think no one will laugh at me that I do. The idea that one of the greatest ever managers in the game - Wenger - can be so roundly and viciously slated by the so-called fans of AFC is something that soils all of us. I know, I feel soiled. Even moderate supporters, who have backed Wenger to the hilt, even over the last decade when all he has to show for his famous French guile is one FA Cup, have now turned on him and have joined the pack that is baying for his blood to be spilled. Le Prof has pulled off the seemingly impossible, in so many ways. Firstly, he showed us that a team can play like Barcelona (during its heyday) and yet win nothing, something really quite remarkable. All that tippy-tappy-90%-possession stuff, and yet they still lose! Unbelievable, when you think about it. Secondly, he showed us that a club can be considered "successful" without actually winning anything. A masterstroke of mind-control over the club's supporters! The problem for Whinger, however, is that he did not factor-in sufficient consideration for the sheer and utter arrogance of Gooners. Sure, they probably don't ever expect to win anything, ever (that, after all, is Le Prof's legacy for the club), but they do seem to believe that it is their birth-right to be in the CL each and every single year. It doesn't seem to matter, not one tiny jot, that Arsenal are just there to make up the numbers, and to be the half-decent opposition that are there to make Bayern or Real look good in the quarters (which is the furthest Arsenal ever get, if they have a good run and get the luck of the draw). For these arrogant fans, finishing outside the "top 4" will be all it takes to send one of France's favoured sons to Madame Guillotine. None of us ought to be in any doubt that it is, sadly, a matter of time before Whinger is sacked, drawing to a close the longest dictatorship in World football.
