Ipswich Town are ready to sell Connor Wickham to one of the Premier League big guns if they meet the Championship clubâs £12 million asking price, Goal.com can disclose. Liverpool and Arsenal lead the chase for the England Under-21 international, who is the next young English talent on the verge of a seven-figure move this summer. Liverpool have enquired about the 18-year-old striker â dubbed the ânext Alan Shearerâ â in the current transfer window and told Ipswich they would be willing to pay £7m. Ipswich told the Merseysiders they value Wickham at £14m although sources close to the negotiations have told Goal.com they would accept £12m for the youngster, who was an unused substitute in last Sundayâs European Under-21 opener against Spain. Seems like a lot of money to me, but then iv'e seen little of him. Is he worth 12m?
At the moment I'd say no, but it's similair to the Henderson transfer, he's not worth 20m but could be in the future. Strikers are valued more highly than midfielders so I think it's worth the gamble, 12m for a lad who has the potential to be a regular England striker, I'd say go for it. it may counterbalance some of the naysayers who are miffed at the Henderson transfer.

I would touch him, think hes an awful big risk for a kid who has not played in the premier league...besides he wont come to us got his heart set on Liverpool...let them soak up the 12 million fee...we need to spend our cash on someone proven...
Strange one this he's done excellent in the Championship but, can he make the step up? look at Stead who banged them in for fun came to us and scored 1 I think it was with his arse in 2 seasons. 12mil is a lot for an unproven player in PL, teams like Arsenal etc. can afford the cash and they can also afford to wait if it doesn't work out. Having said that Beckford has just now started to play well it's took him a full season to get sorted but, seems to be getting into the swing of it.
If he's like SHEERA, stay well clear - I still think SHEERA was one of the most overrated cheating t*ats that ever played for engerland. And he's a SAFC hating geordie. Hate SHEERA - always have. I say we should bring KJ17 back. Lol Bart

No - not kidding. Always thought SHEERA was overrated, and he was probably the biggest reason why SKP did not get more caps. I also think Whickham (also a town in Geordieland) is overrated - have seen him play on the telly a couple o times - if anyone pays more than £5m for him they will have been robbed. Theres better out there for £12m - KJ17 is one. Lol Bart
We shouyld go for him, even at £12m. My thought is we need a striker and lets face it, lets say he is a good un. 2 seasons, 30-40 goals. Then (if we aren't one by then, due to this lads 30-40 goals....) We sell him. BUT my friends for by then £30, £40m. We lose nothing. Now lets say we buy him and he flops. £12m. Well.
