Which would you rather have? Quick safety, or push till the end?

  1. I'm not saying that if we achieve safety mathematically, our players will stop playing to their best ability, but i personally believe that if we need to battle it out until the last few games or so, we could finish higher in the table and end the season all guns blazing with high morale.

Would you rather we did that, or would you rather we went on a winning streak now and achieved safety far before the end of the season? In which case, the players may possibly step off the gas a bit, and lose games to teams that are scrapping for their lives or pushing for the title.

One of the advantages or early safety, is that we can open talks with Enrique about a new contract, and make sure we keep him or atleast get some money for him. I'll be pissed if he leaves on a free.

What do you think? Safety quickly, or battle it out to the end?

    Quite obviously safety quickly!

No offence this is a stupid article and the ones you have done recently have all been awful, which makes a change from where you used to do the odd good one!

I'd prefer an early safety, so Enrique can sign a new contract, and there'd be no pressure on HBA or Gosling to rush back.

I want to hit 40 points as soon as possible and then kick on with the games remaining.

The table is tight this year and a few additional wins with positive GD could be beneficial in attracting new players in the summer because of the improved league position.

Quick safety. There are no advantages of having to 'battle it out till the end'.

Get safety as quickly as possible (which all the players will be aiming for anyway) and then push for a better place.

    In summery, kindof both.

This, Tash, is why you get ridiculed i think. What fan would want to be in a relegation battle? You want success and that will not come thank to this:

If we are battling it out till the end we will not:

If we go on a run and get safety quickly, the morale will be amazing! Creating a good platform to push as high up the league as possible. If there are players who will step off the 'gas' pedal once we have the 42 point's, then they want to get training with the reserves until we can sell them in the summer.

No question really. I'd take early safety. That way we can start getting signatures on paper and blood some of the young lads in prep. for next season, all safe in the knowledge that we'll be in the top flight for another year. I guess that it'll also make life a little easier when it comes to talking to players and getting them to come here to strengthen the squad. If we can approach them early, they know that we're safe in the PL and we can lay the ground work for getting them to SJP.

I get a warm fuzzy feeling just writing about it!

  7. Yes that is a good point about playing more of the reserves, as soon as we achieve automatic safety, we should definetely start Ranger every game.

Actually wasn't the point i was making... If players take their foot off the gas they should be sent to train with the ressies as a punishment.

As long as we can mathematically make Europe we should play our strongest team, once we cannot, bring Vuckic and that in. Obviously once safe playing some of the more complete reserves from the bench will happen, but thats fine, starting with the best XI is important though.

I'd prefer it comes down to the last day, final minutes of that game, heart disease runs in my family and I like a challenge.

Of course we'd all prefer safety, get Jose's contract sorted out.

Though there may be the added bonus that the Quatari royal family may make the pie man an offer he can't refuse if we're guarenteed Premiership next season (fingers crossed)

It's got to be getting quick safety, make sure we stay in the prem, it’s tight enough as it is in the bottom half of the table. It would be good to get player like Jose and Tiote on new deals as we can’t afford to let them go. With getting a quick safety would be good if the fringe guys and some reserves could get some game time and see how they cope in the prem.

If we're having to battle it out still at the end of the season, surely that means we will finish lower (near the relegation zone). If we're not battling for instance, that would indicate we were in a higher league position anyway, right?

Technically, we should always be fielding our best team to try and achieve the maximum league position possible, regardless of whether we're safe or not. Remember, for every 1 position you finish higher, you receive an extra £800,000. That could potentially be a difference of £4m or more if we were to work until the end and finish 8th or take our foot off the pedal and finish 13th.

£4m could be very handy in the summer transfer window and being 5 places higher in the league could also make the club a far more attractive prospect for new signings (especially if it seems European football is achievable at the club).

Simple answer, finish as high as we can, the first target is safety.

I didn't know this, so what is the lowest you can receive without getting relegated?

I agree, i just mean that when we are properly safe, and out of a chance of getting into Europe, it would make sense to rotate a little more, as to not exhaust players when not strictly necessary.

Saftey first but expect the team to keep battling until the end of the season anyways, as SOP says the higher up the league the more income to the club and who knows Europe isn't mathematically impossible and neither is finishing above Sunland.

That's not being deluded they are realistic targets which are still with in our reach as long as we keep battling.

As Tiote recently said in an interview "We fear no team in the league" so **** it let's go and get maximum points

I do not think they would step off the gas. I think we need safety and then they should set themselfs another target as they have suggested. Once they have their new target I have no doubt that they will strive to reach it.
