As we approach the start of the 22nd premier league season, I would like those of you who can to cast your mind back to the start of the premier league and then look at the 5 statements listed and see which would have been the most unlikely to have happened when the league started! Now I would like to make it clear that I am not having any sort of dig at any of the clubs mentioned but to my mind 22 years ago I am not sure that anyone would have suggested that these 5 things would all be true in 2013. 1 - Liverpool would not win a premier league title in 21 seasons 2 – Wigan would spend 8 consecutive seasons in the premier league 3 – Manchester Utd would win 13 titles in 21 seasons 4 – Chelsea would be the 3rd most successful team in the premier league over the 21 years and the 2nd most successful in the 2nd decade of the league 5 – Barnsley, Reading, Swindon, Blackpool, and Hull would all spend time in top flight of English football
1 no surprise there 2 for me 8 years is good going for any small team in the PL 3 is obvious would happen 4 thats what £££££££ can do 5 no surprise there
1. Huge surprise 2. Biggest surprise 3. Not that hard when you have Sky/UEFA doping you 4. Given investment we probably should be 2nd 5. Swindon and Reading is a huge surprise, less so with the others, IMO
