Thinking about the rumours doing the rounds about Celtic offering to start in Division 4, Couldn't they just buy a club and take on the franchise like MKDons and TWS did?

For all they're availlable, I doubt Portsmouth would be the cheapest.

York wouldn't be a bad bet, a population of over 200k, they've already cashed in on the ground, so are probably worth naff all.

If Celtic bought that, they'd possibly need to double check the legal status of that old bow and arrow law.

    God please - NO! NO!

What the hell do we want the Scottish clubs in our English leagues for?

It's bad enough having the Welsh teams in ffs.

I would have thought buying Gateshead and getting them promoted from the Conference would be Celtic's most viable option, they're about as close to the border as you're going to get. Maybe Carlisle if they wanted to pay a bit more to stay nearer to Glasgow and have a direct train connection for their fans. (I realise that Gateshead is near enough Newcastle, but it is further away)

They are a club with great potential. Based in I believe the fastest-growing city in the country, just ahead of Leeds, and with excellent history, resources and transport links in their region. Passionate fans and consistently towards the top of the Conference. If only everyone in their city supported YCFC, eh?

Are these new rumours or just the usual regurgitated nonsense that never seems to go away?

If any team from Scotland joins the English league I fear that I will have no option but to take sanctions.

A bit of both, the idea gets regurgitated every time the Scottish TV contract is up for renewal so that the Old Firm can maintain their greater take of the money than the rest of the league, and in return the rest of the league gets a bigger deal because Rangers and Celtic are written into the contract as participating teams. It will be interesting to see what happens to the TV deals if Rangers go tits up as that will effectively cancel the existing contracts.

What's the consensus up there mate?

I'd imagine the Celtic fans would like to see it happen, as would Rangers fans if they could find a way of playing down here.

Does everyone else think ' **** 'em, let 'em go if that's what they want' or do fans of other teams want them to stay North of the border?

Personally I can't see it ever happening.

Rangers and Celtic help keep most of the smaller clubs going. The likes of Dunfermline and St. Mirren normally give them at least 2 of their 4 stands, sometimes even the likes of Hibernian

I appreciate that but it's only two home games a season that happens( the revenue from the away game works be quite significant I suppose) but there would be benefits if they did leave the SPL.

It would make it a more competitive league and someone outside of the old firm would win it. As it stands the league is ****ing dire and I can't ever seen anyone other than Celtic and Rangers ever winning it again.

It would be a bit like our top four teams ****ing off to a European super league.

Teams like Villa, Everton and Newcastle could look at winning the title .

I'm probably talking bollocks but there is a certain appeal to that.

Don't forget that Celtic and Rangers' poor performances in the Champions League over recent years means that even the Champions now have to qualify, and that they will (in a year or two) have only one CL spot (as opposed to the two they now have). Unless one of them wins it next year, I think their league is doomed <laugh>

    Ah well , **** happens.

When I was in the daft and barmy( sound like uncle Albert) I sometimes used to wear a Rangers shirt and Celtic shorts( both given to me) when we played football for PT.
The Jocks used to go ****ing radio rental, calling it sacrilege.

    Bigoted heathens, all of 'em.
