Out of the 3 toro rosso drivers, the one who's impressed me the most is the Aussie. he got chucked in at the deep end, in an extremely poor car, and is able to challenge the virgins and lotus' over a single lap, something considered to be important. Which one deserves the seat based on current/potential future form? I appreciate it's too early to tell at the moment, as any 1 of the three could massively up their game, like Alguersuari has done this season, for example.

Whoops my bad I read the question wrong and thought it was who should stay at Toro Rosso and voted Buemi. To answer the actual question I think probably Ricciardo.

Alguersuari for me, Ricciardo has done fairly well, it's not exactly easy to shine in the bath-tub, but Alguersuari has been fairly impressive lately too, and is still the youngest driver and possibly one of the most improved on the grid. I think they will be the 2 TR drivers next season, if Buemi loses to Alguersuari, and I think Alguersuari's experience may be the telling factor in 2012 that sees him beat Ricciardo to take the seat.

Nobody deserves that sort of treatment. but plenty will jump at the chance just to be or stay in F1 in a top team even then they don't deserve to be treated in that manner.

The same goes for Ferrari's next victim.

Agreed. Who knows? When Vettel heads to Ferrari eventually, if the current Red Bull junior driver wants to be there long-term, he may end up finding himself team leader depending on how good he is. I'm not going to say who deserves the seat because I'm biased but I definitely think Ricciardo will be at STR next year with Alguersuari. I like Buemi more, but his three years of evaluating is up at the end of this year and despite doing well, I think Alguersuari will end up doing better.

I think Buemi will be the one to lose his seat at the end of the year and Ricciardo and Alguersuari the ones' fighting it out next season
With Algersuari just coming out on top and taking the Red Bull seat for 2013
Bloody hell, Algersuari is such a difficult word to spell!!!! <yikes>

Red Bull want a partner capable of challenging Vettel regularly, beating him on merit occasionally but making up for those dropped points by finishing between Vettel and the chasing pack other times. They also want to be sure that the driver himself is not consistent enough to sustain it for 18-20 races, so that they don't face accusations of favouring one driver. From what I've seen, Alguersuari is that man.

Ricciardo is probably better, and may prove it in time for 2013, but you're asking the question now.

My nod goes to Algersauri, and to be honest if I was STR I'd drop Buemi at the end of this year, he's been disappointing.

Currently I would have to go with Algersuari, talk about answering your critics and performing under pressure.

I completely agree with you. After two-and-a-half seasons in F1, I am still very unimpressed with Buemi. I think Ricciardo has a decent chance for a Red Bull 2013 drive, as long as he has the chance to prove himself in a better car (Toro Rosso) before then.

Algersuari has been flattered by being a crap qualifier which has given him loads of new tyres to use in the race. Whenever he does make it into Q2 he does nothing in the races. Buemi is the better driver in my opinion.

Hmm… I'm not convinced Watford. The reason is perhaps explained by your next statement:
'Regular' surely infers consistency and an ability to 'sustain'?

Your double argument would seem to require a very fine balancing act! :)

I think Ricciardo deserves the Red Bull seat in 2013. He's doing a great job at HRT and I hope he gets the opportunity to drive for Torro Rosso against one of their current drivers as this will be a good assessment for him. Buemi has had three seasons to prove himself and while I believe he's the better Torro Rosso driver, he will probably be replaced by Ricciardo next year.

Alguersuari is rubbish at qualifying - but for doing a bad job, he is lucky enough to be rewarded with fresh tyres. This unfair advantage helps him greatly in the races. He's scored points on five occasions this year and in four of those races he'd been knocked out in Q1. Look how **** he is when he get's past Q1:

    • Australia - started 12th, finished 11th (result helped by Sauber DSQ)
    • Malaysia - started 13th, finished 14th
    • Turkey - started 17th, finished 16th
    • Spain - started 13th, finished 16th
    • Germany - started 16th, finished 12th
    • Hungary - started 16th, finished 10th
Alguersuari doesn't deserve to drive for Red Bull. He is leading his teammate in the championship but he is certainly not the better driver. Take away his tyre advantage and he is useless. If he stays at TR next year I hope Ricciardo shows him up.

started 16th, finished 125h, not tht bad, started 16th finished 10th, got a point, not bad at all. Alguersuari has improved so much since the first 5 or 6 races he's almost a different driver, I think because he's been around a season or so people forget how young he is, almost a year younger than ricciardo, and don't take physical factors into it. young people may have bundles of energy, but they don't have great stamina. I'm pretty sure Ricciardo will replace Buemi next year at STR and then we'll see. I think it will be close between them, and I think they may end up team-mates at RBR when Vettel leaves (which he will do sooner or later, I think if you are a top driver you will always want to drive for either Ferrari, McLaren or both)

Yeah a noticed that Buemi was outperforming him at most GP's so the points Jaime has got, seems well... "pointless" Buemi hasn't been outclassed at many Gp's by Jaime I think...

But this is to be Sebs whipping boy, not his equal lol!

They want someone as good as Webber was last season, bearing in mind that Vettel is more mature and consistent now than a year ago. I think Alguersuari is the man to do that.

Ricciardo could be a future world champion, but I'd rather see him wait until 2014 and have a realistic chance of winning the title at his first proper attempt. In 2013 I suspect he would take points off of Vettel on a good day, but not always be consistent enough to be a cushion between Vettel and his challengers on a bad day.
