And I'm not talking about statistics, because there are teams like Barca that monopolise possesion to limit the oppositions' ability to even test their defence. I'm not croticising that, I'm defining that as a different attribute. Same goes for the ability to defend as a unit with 10-11 players behind the ball. But i digress... I'm talking about the art of defending. I'm talking about CBs that can hold their own against some of the best strikers in the world. Fullbacks that can minimize or even eliminate the threat posed by some of the best wide players in the world, and Keepers that are good shot stoppers, but are also good at handling crosses. and I'm asking this because, quite frankly, I'm stumped.
The Italians were always defensively minded. Everyone else forgot defending properly after the lesson United and anyone watching got 2 years ago. Not really but my point is there was so much talk of following their example, low and behold not one solid defence in the PL top 8 Teams have definitely employed more possession type play, now every other team can knock it about, no end product\bad defending or not. That same better pass move game also makes defending harder, so the two are to the detriment of defence, I think when you look at Barca they do have a fatal flaw, if you can absorb their attacks you will score usually. Celtic Chelsea and Milan proved that We've good defenders but our style leaves them exposed too often
