Relegation from the premier league, i wasn't watching city at the time of the great escape and gather it was some acheivement that we stayed up. Hardly enjoyed much of our last premier league season at all, always struggling near the bottom and the novelty of playing the big teams and at the big grounds had very much worn off. Aside from maybe a handful of games the season isn't one i'll look back fondly on at all.
The relegation was worse, at least the Great Escape had a happy ending with Joyce cementing a team of fighters, the PL team could have done with some of their desire, I'd have dropped Bullard after Burnley (1-4) and picked Brabin..
the great escape season was amazing.. strange as it sounds part of me would rather be doing that again, then the years of mid table championship i think lay ahead..
Relegation from the Premiership was the worst because of the end result. The Great Escape was brilliant because of the end result. No contest.
Relegation season drove me crazy. Absolutely everything that could have gone wrong did. Even when we played really well and dominated a match we'd **** it up at the back and draw 3-3 or something ridiculous like that. And the beginning of last season didn't cheer me up much either!
As others have said, the Great Escape was an incredible season because of the the way it finished. The seasons that followed - the Molby and Little years - were far worse because of how much we underachieved, and in one season, lost in the play-offs.
I take it you're on about the west ham game? That pissed me off. The dominating of games or playing really good stuff before managing to throw it away at the last minute and come away with feck all. Arsenal at home still boils my blood.
I still cringe at Pompey away when we conceded two in two mins.. one of the worst I've felt after a game, I "knew" we were doomed then..
Oh the pompey game -.- How on earth folan managed two goals and we still lost is beyond me. Dowies superb managerial tactics for you. West brom at home? The 2-2 draw. Newcastle at home? All games where we buggered up after playing some decent stuff :/
Not in the relegation season. The only bad thing about the Great Escape season was the first few months. Once we'd had the takeover, Joyce replacing Hately, and started signing players and closing the gap it was amazing. And to be honest, the season itself from that point would have been just as enjoyable if we'd ended up going down because we were putting up a fight. (the consequences obviously being a different matter) The PL season is the dullest I remember, 451 at home against bottom of the league Portsmouth who were playing like ****.
