Aside from the Skate slap, which other game you looking forward to the most. I personally cannot wait for Holloway to visit St Marys, I hope I am able to go that game, and I hope we abuse him solid for 90 minutes.
Looking forward to playing West Ham because it would be a good test to see just how far we have come. I regard them as a Championship team with Premiership players. The away trip to Reading is always a good one aswell - we always have a good crowd there for obvious reasons.
I think it may have something ot do with his post-match interview aft we knocked them out of the FA Cup last year? Think he is quoted as saying "It's an unbelievable turnaround to have their fans singing 'Premier League, you're having a laugh' at us. Well I am having a laugh, I am loving every minute of it because my team has earned the right to be there. I don't think they should be quite so disrespectful, maybe they're a little bit jealous of the fact a little club like Blackpool can do it and Southampton have fallen from grace. But I'm sure they'll be back" To be honest, I see nothing wrong with what he said, I couldn't help but cringe when the Northam began singing the "Premier League? you're having a laugh" chant considering Blackpool fielded their reserves practically (although we did make 7 changes ourselves) and he does end the interview by stating that we'll be back up there eventually. However, I remember a lot of Saints fans not taking too kindly to holloway after that game.
Looking forward to West Ham away mostly, but always looking forward to going to Brighton's new stadium and having some local ale there
It often seems the case that it's ok for fans to say what they like at players and managers, but as soon as one says something back (even if it is fair and tongue in cheek like Holloway) some fans get outraged. Similar to the Kevin Phillips situation. He never slagged Saints off, just said that his personal life at the time meant his move to Saints probably wasn't the best decision. Yet fans took that as a mighty slur against the good name of the club and have boo'ed him ever since. Well, with Holloway and Phillips coming down together, it can be a double-spat of booing and as normally happens in those situations, Phillips is bound to score and Blackpool will probably win. The only player I could ever understand Saints fans booing was John Bailey who got 2 saints players sent off in one game by play acting (quite rare at the time, apart from when Leeds players did or players like Rodney Marsh).
The promotion suspects are the ones we should look for (West Ham, Leicester, Birmingham) as that will tell us where we are in the pecking order. Brighton, Portsmouth, Blackpool for different reasons. Overall though, any game Saints are in will do for me.
I don't see Birmingham as promotion contenders..I think they'll be in this division for sometime to come. ATM probably looking forward to the visit of the "Class of '11"...Brighton & Peterborough. Along with WH and Leicester
I dislike Holloway, part of it was because he took a simple chant that happens everywhere in football and took it as a personal insult which was quite frankly embarrassing but not just for that,a lot of people said he was a breath of fresh air for the premier league last season but i thought he was the opposite, every week he was moaning about this or that and just trying to be mr funny quotes in every interview he done,he had to play up for the cameras and he never just gave a normal interview, i used to like him but i think it all went to his head and now i can't stand him.
And to answer the question,i'm looking forward to play against any team that likes to play football as we tend to demolish those kind of teams
Away to West Ham for me. Living in Essex, going into school/college used to be awful, especially when we were in League One, they've quietened down a bit now, and the majority of the people I know are West Ham fans. The chance to beat them in their own back yard is great, and I am really hoping we do. Wouldn't mind 3 points at St. Mary's either.
Saturdays game at Leicester for me cos if we can beat the pre season favourites in the own back yard i think that will really signal ourselves as promotion challengers
I was looking forward to going to Upton Park - seeing as it could be the last time we do so... However it being arranged to be played on Valentines Day has scuppered all hopes of that though! Pfffffft
Please dont boo Phillips it does not bother him one jot he is an experienced old gun slinger and it just makes him determined to shoot us down i would prefer him not cajoled into scoring only to watch him cupping his ear to the northam with a grin on his face. By all means boo olly
