Assuming the two are mutually exclusive, tonight for sure. We need to build our European co-efficient back up.

I'd take the win on Sunday over tonight, winning on Sunday would do a lot more for morale/confidence than a win tonight would do. Plus league is priority for me, beating Man Utd would mean we'd have had a good, solid start and also set us up nicely for the derby.

Spoken like an owner. You're Derek Llambiarse aren't you? :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Sunday would have been my pick all day long. The league and backing up last seasons performance is far more important to me. If the two had been mutually exclusive I look at it quite simply A good run in the Europa is all well and good but we would be highly unlikely to go all the way. If our league form was to suffer as a result, then the situation quickly becomes unpalatable. Your top players leave, and while our scouting team could replace them over time, we have to remember it has taken 3 or 4 years to get to this stage. All we'd have to show was a bit of a europa run.

Thankfully the two are not exclusive if you manage your squad carefully, and we're are capable of turning them over on Sunday. Won't be easy though! With the Europa it comes down to Pardew and his team. They need to assess the physical aspect of it as we go, while also taking in others experiences over the last few years. I'm sure they have already analysed where the likes of Stoke, Fulham etc went wrong and plotted a different path which will hopefully mean we can make the best of both worlds.

If that's the toughest team in the group, going all the way isn't all that unlikely.

We need to face 4 teams after the group stage. If the draw is not unreasonably cruel, that is no harder than any other cup run

Not sure about that, there are some class European opposition in the latter stages year on year. The FA Cup would be easier and the League Cup. But I think all are very difficult for us!! I'd dearly love us to get that monkey off our backs and I was gutted with the Man U draw. I was hopeful of a bit of luck with the draw but our usual curse struck.

Sunday for me, think it would be a massive confidence booster to win against the Mancs. Then that would set us up really nicely to go for the jugular against the unwashed and continue to do well in Europe.
We didn't come racing out of the starting blocks this season, more of a slow burn and I feel it's crucial we continue to build. A win on Sunday would hopefully ensure that.
