As the title suggests, how do you think we compare to other clubs across the World in terms of size and capability? Clubs like Shakthar Donetsk, Spartak Moscow, Werder Bremen, Osasuna and La Galaxy are all much bigger clubs than us, so who would you put us on a par with? (I am fully aware that some gonk will put Barcelona or Real Madrid or some other unbelievably **** answer) We've played some international teams before - we struggled past Beijing Guoan when we played in the Asia tournament, drew 0-0 with the aforementioned Osasuna and even lost to Aberdeen (granted they were friendlies). We play Al Ahly in the Summer and I think they will beat us. I think we are around the same level as AIK in Sweden (who play at the Friends Stadium......)
Holy ****. We ain't that bad That team is however my cryptonite in Swedish football. Scum bags They probably have a larger fan base in the respective country however. Would say that Hull are at the same level as of a top team in the Swedish League, such as Elfsborg, Malmö FF, etc. Fairly confident that it would be a tight match-up in best of 5 games, with City coming out on the top.
Yeah I'd probably go with that. To go further afar, maybe Deportivo O'Higgins (genuine club) or another mid level Argentinian side are at our level.
We are better than LA Galaxy from someone who watches them all the time. We are definitely better than SJ as well who is better than LA. LA won the playoffs but SJ was by far the better team durring the season. Most MLS teams have higher average attendances than us from what I have seen but they have yet to reach our skill level.
Interesting comparison. Can't say I know a great deal about the team or the area, though I do occasionally watch Serie A, could you elaborate on your choice?
I'd say we are similar to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim or Wolfsburg. Hoffenheim achieved top flight when we did. Stadium not much bigger at 30k. Although the town is more like Gretna as the club is bank rolled by a gazillionaire! Wolfsburg as a city is more akin to Hull, stadium again is 30k.
Hands up who remembers The Tigers in Europe? I speak of the Anglo-Italian cup that we played in during the 72/73 season. It was a tourney for teams in the 2nd tier in both countries and ran for a couple of years. We won both home games (against Lazio and Verona), drew away at Bari and lost at Fiorentina. This is probably the only time we got to see how we stacked up against foreign teams.
