    ... Another negative JWM post.

Although I have to agree with you on this (a little) but I will try to justify why I think we shouldn't/cant spend big.

Both Magilton and Keane pi**ed money up against the wall with some very average overpaid players and because of this Marcus Evans has probably decided to tighten his belt and reign in the lavish expenditure, I imagine one of the reasons we got Jewell was his record of doing 'alright' with smaller clubs and smaller budgets. Because of our severe overspending and Marcus Evans not owning a middle eastern Oil company the money will have to run out at some point if we were to continue in the same vain. I think the cuts are maybe a little brash but I think it is a test of the manager and if he can justify his signings then I'm sure ME will back him it's just not such an open pot as it once was. And rightly so for the future of the club

Just a continuation of what we've seen - the problem is these are not football people so they can't tell the difference between a Chopra / Scotland and a Sharp.

I think as fans we deserve to be told what is going on at our beloved club! Not being negative but tbh what is there to be positive about?

We supposedly got over £8 Million from the sale of Wickham and we got £3 Million from the sale of Walters. That's £11 Million in the bank. We only spent £1M on Chopra and another £1.5 Million on JET and £250,000 on Cresswell. We then signed the OAPs for nothing on huge wages. So is the club admitting that there is very little to spend on transfers due to the current high wages being paid out?

We all know that the prime targets in this window should be a Right Back, 2 Centre Backs, Holding Midfielder and above all a Goal Keeper so where has the money gone to fund these purcahses? More than likely we will end up with another load of loanees and has beens.

There are plenty of decent bargains in the lower leagues but I forgot we dont sign many players under 30 these days.

What a way to run a football club...!

err, wouldn't you have made a loss of about £14m were it not for the sales of walters and wickham? your owner might be rich but your club is not <ok>

Marcus Evans owns our debt so we are not under pressure from anyone and within his group he can simply right off TAX against us anyway. But thanks for your enquiry supers! <ok>

well i'm sure you know more than i do about it warky but the facts are your club owes him an absolute fortune and the more he spends, the more your club will owe him. he isn't going to write it off - it WILL have to be paid to him, with interest, at some point and you also need to start to get your frankly astonishing 98% turnover spent on wages down, as soon the rule will apply where it can't be over 50% approx. (sorry, don't have the exact figures)

basically, your clubs finances are a complete mess, regardless of who the money is owed to. your club is run very, very irresponsibly to anyone on the outside looking in. it simply isn't sustainable for a club of your size. i know its not what you wan to hear but i'm just being honest.

There will be many, many clubs that will be in the **** once these financial fair play rules are introduced. It looks like the Premier League will finally get its way and be the only professional football league in this country. Depite the majority of these clubs running at huge financial losses.

Ipswich Town is being systematically run into the ground mainly through incompetence and poor management decisions. Unfortunately most of our fans are too blind to see it happening!

EPPP regulations won't help either, but we can blame your former chairman for that idea <yikes>

LeFondre for what was reported to be less that £500,000 or JET for £1,500,000 +, I know which one I would have signed, and which one I would want at the club.

Liam Trotter, keep him on and work with him to develop his game, OR spend a load of money on Leadbitter, who is always average at best.

Rhodes, need I say more about his potential... OR Priskin for £1,700,000...

Anybody else a bit miffed about the way our club goes about nurturing potential and seeking it out???

We as a club need to re-evaluate what we are at the moment. Nobody wants to hear this but we are not a premiership bound club right now. When (if) our supporters finally realise that we are not a premiership club in waiting and lower our expectations we might actually get somewhere. The pressure of the supporters for success is a factor into why we are doing things the way we are at the moment. We are not the force we once used to be and the sooner we accept this and start doing sensible business in the mould of smaller clubs then we might actually have a chance of becoming solvent again. Throwing money at it doesn't always guarantee success, Blackpool proved that you can achieve things without spending big, Swansea and Norwich have also got their rewards for scouting good players but not spending a fortune.

A portion of the blame can be laid at the supporters feet and the expectations we have. We need to man up and accept our current position. We are a team that hasn't finished top half over the last couple of years but yet fans still expect us to win promotion. Sure, we've spent a lot of money for championship standards over those years so you could say it's unacceptable but money doesn't buy you success, a good team does.

First we need to lower the wage bill, if you have high earners at your club then the next player to come in wants to be on a par with that.
Second we need to scout out lower league players who will relish the chance of playing for Ipswich, not ex prem players who see Ipswich as a big step down or backwards and so are not as interested. Do we have anyone in our squad (except the obvious Ipswich boys Wright and ALB) who really love playing for us. Who was the last person to kiss our badge after scoring? Two of our best players recently have come from lower down. Walters and Cresswell both took the chance to play at a higher level with both hands and are showing the more established players how it's done. Drury could do the same for us if given the chance, he has better technique than many in our team.

Face it, we cannot keep losing 10M a year and expect to survive, we need to act a bit more like Doncaster, not Man City.

after spending a huge amount over the last few years and big sums on individuals it seems a little strange that paul jewell has said that £3 million is "way out of our league", this after offering £2.3m only a few months ago. marcus evans has never been afraid to splash the cash so why have we suddenly gone from being ambitious in terms of spending too being very tight over £700k.
we got a lot of money from the sales of wickham and walters and this needs to be spent on the team, getting in the 3 or 4 signings we need to turn our season around. We dont need a full revamp of the squad or anything like it. However, £3m for a player being linked to premiership clubs at 25 and in great form is definately worth pursuing when we consider some of the donkeys we have bought for big money before (leadbitter and priskin spring to mind!)
This statement by Paul Jewell would lead us to believe that we are not intending on spending a huge amount this january. so are we going to be able to get the replacements we desperately need (centre back, right back, gk, andrews!) or are there more loans to come? (what about this long term plan they keep talking about?)

our team without the goals of andrews does looks average at the moment, its clear we need to improve rapidly and the loss of stockdale, collins and andrews make us a lot weaker before we've even added anyone.

big decisions and intent are needed in january. we need to do whatever we can to get keith andrews permanently (by the sounds of things we aren't even doing that), we also need to get another centre back permanently, collins will do but would prefer someone else, we weren't exactly solid at the back while he was with us. I also believe it is essential we get a right back. I like edwards but his mistakes from his poor defensive skills are the reason for much of the shambles we have seen so far.
If we got those positions sorted and really pushed the boat out and got billy sharp (offload priskin and ellington) then we might actually start to see us climb the table and see a late promotion push which I really dont believe would be beyond us if we saw these changes.

" Not being negative but tbh what is there to be positive about? "

Even if you'd won the lottery you'd whinge like a yorkshireman. I think yourself and I would have a great time bantering and setting the world to rights in a pub, over a forum however it comes across as somewhat suicidal

We're a wasteful club I will agree. Yellow its very easy in retrospect to say what you have. However, who could have predicted when we signed Leadbitter how bad he'd be? I was lead to believe he would be rather a good signing. Many seemed delighted when he came aboard. I can't recall any eyebrows over the fee / wages back then...

Also, very fed up of Rhodes posts. YAWN. I'm sorry he went too, but for a club of our standing I believe we had a choice who to develop, himself or Wickham. Connor was certainly pushing more than Rhodes at the time. Also, I think Rhodes wanted out permanently, and didn't want another loan deal out. Its how football works sometimes.

Again Priskin, I think we all thought more would be achieved.

JET and Le Fondre are completely different types of players, so that comparison to me has any relevance. However, I agree in what your saying Adam Le Fondre for 500,000 would have been a sound investment !

back to the article itself, the Wickham money has been swallowed up on the following...!

    1 - Wages - We have around 15 players on OVER £10,000 a week - which makes up £500,000 a year x 15 = £7,500,000 MINIMUM - stupid for this league

    2 - Transfers - JET / Chopra

    3 - Agents / signing on fees

4 - Make up for our shocking attendances

    5 - Pay the debts

    6 - Pay the council

We drastically need to reduce 1 - wages, and increase 4 attendances. Otherwise we're really in a hole.

I read recently we have between the 2nd to 4th highest wage bill in the league. Really, what has that achieved !?

Let us hope the next 2 years are more positive. I can see why Jonnywarkmoustache is like he is with the state of our football club though, I cannot deny why many
( myself included ) are becoming rather fed up with the club as a hole.

Well I can honestly say at the time of Keane's signings saying I wasn't impressed, just signing what he knew basically.

Priskin - Did anyone think he would be good?

I wasn't really comparing the style of player in regards to JET and Le Fondre, more just an example of the type of signings we're making.

I also agree we can moan all we want about Rhodes, and it is very frustrating. But as you say 'a club of our standing', not sure what you mean by that as in reality we had several really poor seasons and were crying out for a goalscorer, which we appeared to have found, and then sold. A club that had once prided itself on developing youth and we can't develop more than one decent prospect at a time, sounds ridiculous to me...

Leadbitter, I did actually think Priskin would be good, I watched a youtube video of him and thought we'd got a bargain. I still think he's a talented player, just needs the odd kick up the a*se and show some sort of consistency.

As for rhodes, I don't think I'm ever going to change my mind on that one, to me from whatever angle people try to reason with the decision it makes no sense to me on any level, possibly the worst bit of transfer business this club has done considering the circumstances!!

Im going all Victor Meldrew here. 'I dont believe it'
Our wage bill is something like 98% of our income. Our club took a decision several years back to buy premiership experienced players, which also means premiership money. Now I dont agree with a lot of things that ME had done but so far you can not say he hasnt backed our managers. If you look at the difference in player history between his takeover and now it is truly amazing. We have recently played matches with 10 players with premierleague experience and 9 with international recognition. That costs sackfuls of cash. The sad truth is 99% of that cash has been wasted but it is still backing. Other than Leicester there is not 1 club that has had the backing we have had in the last 3 years but still fans want more.
There was me thinking football was about coaching and training and teamwork and a whole host of other things that got a club like us, and Norwich into Europe on a budget. There was me thinking that when the likes of Burley and GOD before him competed with the best it was down to good old fashioned management and get the best out of a group but now everyone wants to forget about what football is really about and turn into funking Man City. 'oh its not fair we have only spent 4000 quacksillion this summer and havent yet completed the buying the whole of the top 50 rated players in the world boo, flipping, hoo'
Maybe we should go and bid 1 billion for Messi and hope he takes us to the promised land or possibly, just possibly, we consider what its like for fans of Plymouth, for example, who are greatful if they can sign anyone and still have a team to follow on a Saturday afternoon.
