won 4 in our last 5... other results could not have gone better for us. 3 PTs from top!! Happy days I reckon!
I think the performances have taken the shine off things. Still, I think most of us would have taken 25 points from 14 games at the start of the season.
You not going to win and play well in every match. We won that's all that matters. Grinding out results is the sign of a good team. Barnsley were better in the 2nd half, whereas we should have had it in the bag by then. We were all over them in the first half. But as you say that, did Amos have anything to do apart from come and collect a few back passes, and crosses? They just had alot of possession and we contained them well enough. It was edgy more then anything. This league is a funny one, Forest got beat by Millwall on their own patch- they were abysmal when they came here. Another example Watford beating Leicester.
As the Great Mr Brown used to say "We've won ugly" and thats what we've been doing, As we saw against Bolton and Millwall, when we do perform we play very well. It's been a very good first quarter of the season IMO.
The first half was us playing the way we do. What happened in the second though ? We went deep and lost any adventure we had in the first.
I have to say i think its brilliant we kept a clean sheet, as i think as a team we haven't defended well at all this season, but i think today showed that we can play 3-5-2 with that line up and still defend well. We didn't play as fluently in the second half but we did well defensively and looked solid which we are going to need to do at times this season. 3 points from Automatics is good enough for me!
We have so much more and we have gifted away easy points - that happens, but anyone who has ever played the game will be very content with what we have, we simply need to shift upo a gear. A couple of excellent results fo Boro and whoever, but as long as we keep this up, after Xmas is the time to switch on the real class results - and we will, I have no doubt of that (even with this wafer thin squad!).
I know some won't be happy with the fact that we're not convertng all our chances but we're averaging over 10 shots a game. That's far better than last season. It's not perfect and we're not putting wins away early on but I'm very happy. If we can stay around that zone it will be a nice season. Anyone would have taken playoffs at the start of season, automatic won't be easy, quite a few good teams up there but we'll see!
According to the football league website, last season we had 294 shots on target, 258 off target, and another 19 that hit the woodwork. This season we're at 86, 85, and 7 respectively. That means last season we averaged 12 shots a game, and this season we're averaging 12.21 shots a game.
We're doing great and when you consider Jay Simpson is due a few goals and Hobbs might be back soon things are looking up- we even have Mcshane and Bruce playing as well as they have ever done.
Bruce went off and we switched to 4-4-2 and began to get over-run in midfield is what happened in the second half.
We were **** in the second half, Bruce went off half way through it, so we were **** long before he went off. I hope he's okay and I look forward to welcoming him back. In April...
