I think we will lose more players and gain a couple more but based on whom we have signed so far top 4 for me.
Given the upheaval and impact of FFP, I think top 6 would be a decent result for us - I still worry about our weak under belly (as does SoD it seems)
That's why I expect a couple more signings and a few to go as well. To leave as surplus Fontaine, Wilson, Kilkenny Almost certain to lose Albert and one of Baldock and Davies or perhaps both just because they haven't played much, and also Cunningham has his admirers out there. so we could see as many as 7 leave. which would leave a massive hole for the management to fill. We have cover for Cunningham in Bryan and we have enough midfield players not to miss Kilkenny but we will need to add another CB and a couple of forwards and a Gow/Bremner type defensive midfielder and a couple of U-21 defenders especially fullbacks.
Top 6 is a realistic expectation and anything less will be seen as abject failure. As I said on another thread there are a few decent teams in L1, but there are also a lot of poor ones.
such a class statement from the minorities that backfired so hard it's became their annual nickname Think we need to be careful not to be overconfident ..
The UEFA rules on FFP are fairly clear-cut. However, I'm not too sure about the Football League rules. The way I see it, if we really wanted to reduce the load on the squad we could just terminate the contracts of the dead wood. This wouldn't be classed as additional spending under the UEFA FFP rules, and would free up funds. If Lansdown wanted to take the initial hit to completely free up the squad for new players he could do this.
Can't be certain about this but it seems that under the salary cap spending on paying off contracts does come under the 60% rule FFP and Salary Management Protocols differ in several details but trying to filter out everything that applies takes hours I hope the clubs get sent more detailed information than is available on line or noone would ever get it right.
I might be included in the 60% but surely if it happens this month prior to the season start date then it will be null and void? If it happened next season then they might include it. But the club could just claim they waited to see if they could off load them before the season starts to a buyer, no one was interested so they just released them.
The finances and signings etc are looked at every 3 months so you never have a year to try and move people and finance around yes it is wrong but it is to stop clubs with wealthy chairmen doing things poor clubs can not do. So it is trying to drag all clubs down to the level of the lowest rather than trying to find a way to drag the lowest clubs up a bit. If the wealthier clubs were able to pay off their players who were not needed it would help other clubs sign them as they would be able to accept a smaller wage without dropping their living standards but no one seems to have considered that aspect.
But has that started yet? If it officially starts 2nd August then we have time, if it started last game of last season then we don't
