Right wing instead of SWP? Zamora & Cisse up top, Barton & Diakite in centre of midfield, Traore on left wing.
Im not sure tarbs fits in a 4-4-2 sparky style. will leave fbs too exposed. If he starts then he works just off the front man, got a feeling we will see him used as am impact sub. Its going to be interesting to see who starts where, only when they are all back from Africa will we know.
More importantly, will he fit in with the squad in training. Can't see any of the new faces puitting up with the "old" Adel. If he doesn't pull his weight then he won't make the team. If he has grown up in the last few months then I can see him being used as an impact sub on either wing or behind a lone striker in a 4-4-1-1. We are all holding our breath to see how things go. It could be absolutely brilliant for us .... but, if not, it could be curtains for him.
I think deep down most of us know Adel doesn't fit into MH's preferred formation. We're just hoping he'll find room somewhere. My feeling is he won't start many games and probably be on his way in the summer. Diakite and Barton in CM and Zamora and Cisse upfront. Adel isn't a winger. I'm confident we'll still score goals without him.
Has to start in a 4-4-1-1, or a straight4-4-2 If we are behind with 20-25 mins to go he could be brought on as an impact sub. Unless he is willing to up his workrate by 50% then IMHO we simply can't start him on either wing. Would love to see him stepping up to the plate and putting in the hard yards. He is still far and away our best player.
Where will Taarabt fit in? In the squad with the rest of them. With an enriched squad there will be few ever-presents now. All about strategy and depends on who and how we're playing.
at present & when all fit, i would have midfield of barton, buz, diakite, traore, with ciss & zam at front, not sure where he would fit in but will be part of squad.
I think that's a bit over-simplistic Brix. If MH wasn't such a staunch believer in 4-4-2 I think we could all fit Adel into the team. I still believe we should play this: Kenny Young Ferdinand Onouha Taiwo Diakite Barton Taarabt SWP Cisse Zamora/HH But MH probably won't play this system. Hard to see Adel fitting into 4-4-2. He's not a wide player and won't help the FB much. I fear we may only see him as an impact sub for the rest of this season!!
Adel is a far, far better player than Buzz, so if that's the midfield then he can play in the centre with Diakite!
Interestingly, there has been absolutely zero talk of AT going anywhere for weeks now (which must be a first) and the opportunity to offload him at a profit has now gone. Even though they have probably not yet met I assume MH has made him aware he is a part of the forward plan. The only question mark is why hasn't the club yet offered a contract extension. Presumably MH will run the rule over once he returns and then start negotiations if he likes what he sees.
MH's signings have raised the bar at the club. New professionals, with higher standards who have come to the club based on the ambitions of the club. Tarbs head doesn't stand so proud of the other players now - will he be able to cope with that? Or.. will he look at his peers and see he HAS to raise his committment to training and development - look at how he can be effective in this team. I'm fed up of saying this, but it's up to AT to take up the challenge; show he has the motivation to use those skills to great effect on a big stage - otherwise.. he's going nowhere fast (like until the end of the season; MH will make a decision on him by them). I so hope he can, but.. I have great doubts. Many players with great natural skills have not attained the heights they should have - I'm sure like many of you.. I fear AT is another in that mould. We'll know by the end of summer 2012 and our new season (hopefully 2nd season in the EPL).
A fair assessment SW. I just hope he can show the motivation to step up, as we desperately need his creativity...something MH hasn't bought in the transfer window!!
The problem with playing Adel in the middle of midfield in a 4-4-2 is that he can't/won't/doesn't tackle and defend. That leaves just a single defensive midfielder trying to stop the whole of the opposition's midfield. They'll soon get wise to that (within five minutes) and everything will be channelled through the middle.
Not if it's a fluid version of 4-4-2 which becomes 4-1-3-2. A lot of teams only play one holding midfielder now...the wide players ARE supposed to defend too!
Taraabt doesn't like being stuck on the wing. He doesn't see enough of the ball. He'll take it there himself to move in, but to stick him there as a game plan, he'll just disappear. He needs to be the pivot in the middle, being given permission to attack as he pleases right behind the striker(s). He needs to see that he has support on either side, so he has somebody to pass off as he makes his move. People think he's selfish a lot, but the fact is, if he doesn't have anybody to pass to, to someone making runs into space or to give him the safety valve, he'll just twiddle as usual and then we'll all be frustrated if he doesn't at least get a shot on goal. He needs to be central.
This is why I would play 4-3-1-2, with him behind the 2 strikers. He can be the holder in mid and up. If he's an impact sub, he won't play. He's been an impact sub too much already this season, and he'll just twiddle.
