Disappointing crowd last night. I know we suffer from giving up big chunks of the ground to a few hundred away fans but even so there were quite a few gaps around the place. Considering the clamour there has been for tickets to the matches where we are likely to be celebrating promotion this came as a bit a surprise. I know we have spoken about glory seekers many times before but I hope our real following can still get off their collective backsides when we are on TV. Otherwise we may end up like Wigan. About the game itself, we were fantastic going forward; probably the best we have seen since the first couple of months of the season. Having space in midfield to play makes all the difference to this team. Routledge was excellent of course; Smith was better in my view and would have been MoM in most other games; but both were shaded by the immense performance by Faurlin all over the pitch. The defense was less impressive overall: Gorkks lost his man a good few times, Onesize as usual distributed the ball to anyone other than those in blue and white and Orr had a couple of moments also. Can't complain of course but you do start thinking forward to who might cut it in the top tier. U Rrrrsssss!
Sky again kept the crowd down, play the game on Saturday and it would have been full, also a bigger away number. It was a great result and a good atmosphere
The strangest thing is that whilst it's clear that much of the team's success this season has been, and still is the inpenetrability of our defence, I'm far from convinced we can afford to leave it as it is if and when we make it to the Prem. Paddy and Faurlin apart, they all seem so flawed in one way or another: Derry and Hill the age factor; Orr's ability and judgement at times; and the four centre backs, various self-evident individual concerns. Is it just me or do others have similar concerns for next season? Necessary upgrades or go with what we've got?
If hall defends like he did last night he will have no problems although Connolly has been abit off his game he is still only 24 Mackie will make it in the prem no doubt...Hogan is still only 23 and if he filled out abit will do well...buz will do the job. Theres still alot of dead wood and players we need to move on: Dave *(would im convinced will trip over his own shaddow) Rowly (clearly neils not a fan) Cook (Cant see him getting back to form) Vine Legs Borrowdale Clarke
The West London Willy Premier League Shopping List: 1. Pack of Central Defenders (get the strong type, but ones with the quick-action, they are the best for keeping sheets clean). Don't get fooled by BOGOF offers. Buy a two-pack, so that they match. 2. A Midfield Block. Doesn't have to be Bloo, just needs to get in there and clog stuff up. 3. Some kind of useful striker. A Hammer, maybe. Whatever, when he gets to the matches, he needs to be a real firework that will tear off, flash past people and strike outside the box. Someone to light up the place.
Ive heard we're in for Lee Bowyer. Perfect replacement for Derry who although immense I can see struggling in the Prem. Even if he doesnt we need a third player who can play in that holding role otherwise his replacement will be Buz or Vaagan Moen. Both who are attacking players.
