I realise there are a lot of articles going around about Martin's Departure but I thought I would add yet another! Where will MA go now? If you look at his CV he is now a championship winner with us and now must look very appealing to any club in League 2 and even some League 1 clubs! Dare I say Sheffield United? They need someone with experience and understanding of the game and they could do much worse than him! In all reality I have him pinned for either Northampton or Southend as they both could do well with Martin and feel both Aidy Boothroyd and Phil Brown will be out of the job by Xmas. Anyone fancy a return to Barnet?
If MA proved anything he can do well with a budget! He could take them to promotion pushing Championship team given time. Do believe he is a Premier League Manager in waiting, just needs the right club.
I think that there will be clubs interested in Martin, but I expect he will end up in league 2 again and probably as a firefighter again. I am also interested in how Martin will be regarded by Gills fans once the dust has settled, he was the 8th permanent manager appointed by Scally (9th if you include Hess twice), and we had 7 managers in the 20 years before Scally joined, so of those 15 where would Martin rank, today I think most people would put certainly put him in the top 5 (there are many here who wont recall Summers and Peacock who between them managed the club for 12 years so must have been doing something right) so alot may say top 3, I think history will put him in the top half. The first time I went to Priestfield Keith Burkinshaw was in charge so I have seen us play under 12 managers and in terms of Achievement I would place Martin 4th behind Pulis, Taylor and Hess (1st time), but in terms of enjoying watching us play and the style of football offered he would drop a place as the much maligned Mark Stimsons team were much better to watch (for a fan who goes to home matches predominantly).
Well he's the best manager I have ever seen at Gillingham. Ok i've only been fortunate (or unfortunate depends how you look at it) to be a fan for 11 years and he had been the most professional and successful out of all of the guys I've seen at the helm.
Same for me, I have been a supporter since 2002-2003 when I was between 6/7 years old so Martin Allen is also the best manager I have seen at the club. I think Sheffield United would be a good job for Martin Allen, I am sure he would do well with them.
Pegleg and Hoadie, I think those are fair comments and the stats do bear that out, his win % would put him fourth behind Taylor, Peacock and Pulis.
If you've only been a fan for the last 10/11 years then yes he's easily the best. If you're slightly older I can think of one or two others but none of them won the league. Sheffield United is a distinct possibility.
1, Tony Pulis 2, Keith Peacock 3, Hess 4, Martin Just my opinion but I wish him well wherever he goes ...its been a blast Sheffield United all the way to the Prem I suspect and if so he deserves it !!
1. Keith Peacock was class, i loved watching the football we played under him. 2. Tony Pulis 3. Stimson hahaha
1. Freddie Cox 2. Keith Burkinshaw 3. Tony Pullis. 4. Peter Taylor. 5. Andy Hesenthaler. 6. Martin Allen. Best of luck to MA in whatever he does next.
In answer to the question, things look bad for MadDog. Under the Dangerous Dogs legislation he is going to be neutered, microchipped and tatooed. He will only be allowed out if he is muzzled and kept on a lead. Life can be tough especially for a Gills Manager.
No mention of Damien Richardson... probably had the most talented squad of youngsters the club ever had, but sadly lacked any real experience players to guide them
bristol407 - have you been stalking me on my 'camel' days out ? - no matter how much you want me, I'll never agree to be manger of GFC - I'm no Mad Dog nor lap dog to Scally
Am I being whoooshed here grumpygit? For the record my all time fave is Sir Keefy. I know that's a surprise to you all....
Damiens was the first team that I watched on a regular basis, and I agree we had some excellent youngsters at the time and Damien always wanted us to get the ball down and play, but we never quite got the balance right, and I believe he went on to win the league title in Ireland and is now the Irish equivalent of Alan Hansen!
SirKeefy, my sincere apologies, I was suffering the after effects of a heavy lunch time session in the local hostelry, I did of course mean Peacock and in no way intended to insult your dad. Oh! you didn't know about that.
Q1 (answer) .. I'll come into season as soon as The Gills come into this season ! Q2 (answer).. 'ship' ? I'm sure it's a spelling mistake from what I keep getting called ! one answer to the 'ship' description was that camels are able to travel vast distances, drink from waterholes far more bitter or saline for other creatures and able to eat anything they can get --- ask brb this sounds just like a 'camel' day out following Gills.
I thought everyone knew that the camel is "ship of the desert" because it is full of arab se(a)men. We know why you and brb want to be known as camels, just don't be surprised when the away supporters creep up behind you!
