Do we actually have a Chairman and a Boardroom at he moment? Not shy when it comes to the press statements concerning how he 'despises' stay away fans, our Chairman seems to have gone walk-a-bout in recent weeks when the ****e has totally splattered the fan. Gyan has ****ed off in very strange and contentious circumstances; we have been beaten again by the mags and failed to turn up for the 3rd time in a row; knocked out of the cup again in the early stages by lower league opposition; and currently have 2 points from 4 games, 2 goals in 5 games and a set of strikers that look completely shot shy. Oh and the football we are watching is utter rubbish of the highest order and the prospects are bleak for any improvement anytime soon. So where are the Chairman's comments now? You have got to open up Niall and stop doing the Bob Murray 'shutters up' style of defence. You are quick to criticise us and very quick to offer the sales pitch for earlier and earlier season ticket renewals but you're absent without leave at the moment and the ship is leaking water at an alarming rate. This is not having a direct pop at our big fella but he's not without blame for some of this current malaise. He fed us the magic carpet ride and the "we will break the bank for Bents replacement" one liner but all I have seen so far is yet another high profile departure not a recruitment. Time for a statement Niall to either back or sack your man. We appear rudderless at the moment IMO and it looks like no one is in control. That will result in only one thing. Further misery for everyone connected with the club, fans, players, manager and Chairman alike.
We dont have a "board", Short owns 100% of the club, so their are no other proper Board members (or thats my understnding of a board anyway) there is only really Short and Quinn, Short is quiet by nature, Quinn usually isnt, but then he has stuck his foot in his mouth more than once, so maybe he is thinking discretion is the better part of valour. maybe they just dont think anything is wrong at the club and it will all come good, so they dont have to speak out. as there is nothing to speakout too. its just a few fans and media making a mountain out of a molehill (not saying thats what i personally think, just what they may think)
Neither Quinn or Short could have not noticed the sombre mood of the fans yesterday. The atmosphere was one of the expectation of defeat. They were sadly not disappointed. There is an undercurrent feeling of depression amongst fans and although the calls for 'Bruce out' are still muted, up in the usually more sedate Premier Concourse they were constant and very vocal from the start of the game to the end. I personally think things will erupt big time next Sunday if we fail to beat Stoke and then the Board/Short and Quinn will be left in no doubts as to the depth of feeling.
Cest, the worrying aspect of all this for me, is Gary Bennetts revealations yesterday concerning a so called 'world class striker' that apparantly wanted to come to the club (which is a rarity for us these days) but who the board would not sanction the deal for. The reluctance not to push the deal for Nzogbia and now this, suggests to me the problem is more deep rooted than we all origionally thought. I am very worried indeed...
Maybe Quinn is thinking no matter what he says it will be used against him by certain sections of our support, who's life ambitions seems to be to pull our club down, so has now decided to keep his gob shut... PS...This comment is not aimed at the OP, who despite having different opinions to myself, is someone who I firmly believe has the best interests of the club at heart.
Biffa, I think it's more a case of Short just not buying the Bruce management and withdrawing any further funding for him. I dont think he has long left at the club as manager and Short is just waiting for the right time to do the deed. Any money will be going to a new man not the old dead in the water one. I think 5 transfer windows and 5 major upheavals show a manager totally at odds with this remit of steadying the ship and growing the team brand. WE seem to bring in and ship out 7 or 8 players EVERY window and thats ridiculous. That level of upheaval shows in the play and the team selections because after 2 years, 5 transfer windows and a few bob to spend, Bruce still hasn't got a clue about his best 11 players. Thats not progress its amateurish. I could have done that job and not spent as much money. I could have lost Bent and Gyan inside 9 months for whatever reason and then not replaced either. I could have lost 8 out of 9 home games this year and watched my team perform woefully in front of you all but I'm not the manger. Bruce apparently is but you wouldnt know it. I am more concerned that we go for the right man and thats 100% O Neill for me (Moyes isn't coming here). Available and proven he could start from day one to work his magic. He gets the best form the players he has at his disposal and its a myth he always needs money. At Leicester he didn't but he still won trophies. Act now or repent late.
He was with the choirboys yesterday We are in turmoil, granted... But surely we can't be turning on Quinn and Short? The two fellas have done more for the club than I ever thought possible. I'm not surprised Ellis has stopped throwing money in, look around.. Villa, Everton etc have all taken large sums of cash in and spent much less. I'm very much wavering on Bruce, but the fans need to stick by the players and roar them over the line.
Apologies for butting in lads, but I find the mood in your camp unbelievable! Fair enough, you've had an unfortunate/unlucky/dodgy start to the season, but for people to be calling for Quinn to go is astounding. Jesus Christ, we'd kill for a chairman like that, someone who genuinely loves the club and has their interests at heart. All we've had for the last five years is idiotic decisions and silence. There's very little you can do about the situation. Call for Bruces head? Create even more negativity? As I said, the reactions of some of your fans is way over the top. There's 30 odd games to go.......
Well at Leicester, in his 5 years, he did spend 36 million, 22 miilion net deficit which was helped by selling Heskey, who came through the youth for £14million to liverpool. So its not like he didnt spend anything, but it was nowhere near the scale of Newcastle in that time as an example. I do believe he will want cash, and quite a lot of it though, if he does come, but then, so will every manager, Moyes wont go from one team thats skint to another thats skint, thats for sure.
Trouble is mate that he is his own worst enemy at times. That attack on fellow fans was poor judgement IMO and ill advised. He never apologised for the use of the word despise and that was very poor. He promises things he cannot deliver like world class managers and players. He promise that the transfer record will be broken to replace Bent and then sells season ticket renewals on the back of these promises only to break those promises later. I love Quinny but to be fair, he brings a lot of criticism on himself. We are all involved in an emotive, passionate game, where what you say and do is important. Quinny has received nothing but praise and adulation here a the SOL ever since he came as a player but he has to stop putting his foot in his own mouth and he has to act now for the good of the club over Bruce. He has O'Neills number and he has to call it this week if the club are to come out of this 9 month downward spiral of failure. I do love my club, as do you mate and 10's of 1000's of other and although we may differ on strategy, we do not outcome. However, even you must concede things look pretty ****ed up at the minute and I cant see how Bruce can turn this round now. He looks lost. The team look lost and as I am saying, Quinny has gone missing in recent weeks as the clubs fortunes spiral out of control. I'm not demanding we become Barcelona RAW, just a good Sunderland team thats all and one that can hold its own in the EPL for once without struggling. I'd settle for a team like Stoke never mind Barcelona!
Although that I havn't gone down the negative path, I can understand why it is that others have. It's not just this season that is causing the unrest, but that defeat yesterday now means that we have only won one home game since half way through last season! i left the ground yesterday trying to remember the last time I came away with a smile on my face.
Thanks for your unwanted and unwelcome interest but I have at no point called for the Chairman's head, just for his statements and leadership. Our ship is stranded not temporarily stalled. This isn't about 4 or 5 games (even if they are bad enough) this season, its about the past 9 months and the loss of TWO of our star players. Its about the lack of team spirit and cohesion and a total lack of tactical ability and team patterns. Bruce will take us into the bottom 3 over the next 3 weeks, of that I am convinced. The whole thing is shot to pieces now. He needed a good start to convince me he had turned it round after a poor latter half of the season but he has failed miserably. He has to go not the Chairman but Quinny MUST stop making promises he most certainly cannot keep or doesnt have the authority to dictate. We need a hard line Quinny this week to make the right decision and bring in Martin O'Neill. We do have a decent squad but we also have a duck egg picking the team. I thank the stars we are not your lot and have fat **** for an owner but that doesnt mean all is well at our club either. The Boardroom is a solid professional body of good men and women but it needs to grasp the bull by the bollocks this week and act like its in control.
He joined Leicester City immediately after leaving Norwich. They won the Football League Cup under O'Neill in 1997 and 2000, as well as reaching the 1999 final of the competition. They finished ninth in 1997, tenth in 1998 and 1999, and eighth in 2000. The two League Cup triumphs saw them qualify for the UEFA Cup each time. You have to factor that in as well mate. What money did he generate from the European campaigns and the 2 Wembley wins? I'd give my back teeth for that set of achievements at SAFC. Couple that with 3 consecutive top 6 finishes with Villa and you have a top quality manager. O'Neill is a born winner. I'll be gutted if we stick with Bruce and he goes somewhere else in the meantime - like Blackburn for instance. Gutted.
At no point did I say YOU personally called for the chairmans head. I just find it difficult to believe the mass hysteria caused by very little. You've lost two "star" players, we've lost four "star" players and I think there's a lot more over-reacting from your supporters than is warranted. That's all. As for my "unwanted and unwelcome" comments, are you one of the "get off our board" people?
This could be the calm before the storm Cest. IMO SB or NQ will be gone this week & if one of them does go i ****ing hope its not the chairman
Well back in 1997 there was hysteria and nothing was done then and look what happened to us. We have no creative midfielders and no Bent or Jones now so basicly going back to square one and that vicious circle of relegation and promotion.
