I know some are on hols and some hungover from celebrations (Queen and STFC!) but boy is it quiet in the Saloposphere!! Why not post thoughts on any subject just to get ready for the next games or just a god old male (sorry Jenny!) gossip! Suggest: Thoughts Grant Holt's future Ben Davies, rumour or spuddling? Has anyone been to the 'Pub of the year' at Ruabon? Good pubs to watch footy....or stay at home and solitary drink! Can we find ten pubs to take GVC products in Salop......the country's best cider maker will put a few cases in my boot if asked. Has anyone tried Hattrick? It's fun and we could all compete. ......and wasn't Shirley Bassey better than Sir Cliff???
I personally thought the televised section of that concert in front of Buckingham Palace was damn awful! Every single performer hit bum-notes, as for McCartney, he seriously needs to retire.. Holty's looking for a 3 year contract somewhere & although it is thought he'll end up at Villa, I can't see them offering him 3 years. Newly promoted West Ham have also been mentioned but I think he may look up north for the security he seeks. Everton, Wigan, Leeds, Blackpool spring to mind. My local's a good place to watch sport, The Royal Oak on Coton Hill. Plenty of tv's hung off the walls, all of which can be tuned into different games (or sports, of course) & you're never too far away from the bar! I've not tried Hattrick but I do regularly play fantasy.premierleague.com. I reckon we should have a bash at that this season & arrange a mini-league amongst ourselves (if anyone's interested?). And finally, has anyone tried Snowdonia Black Bomber Cheddar cheese? Tis fab..
......love all their cheeses and regularly give them as presents....they visit all the fayres (sic!) including the German market in Bath at Xmas!!!! AAAAH! The Royal Oak.....one of the first pubs I used to drink in, there and the Benbow, seem to remember Wrexham lager and some seriously good mild. The tv shots were atrocious too, never more than a few tenths of a second at any time...I know attention span is limited in the younger generation but that's ridiculous!!! Thanks for the Holt thoughts...I'd go with Wigan or Villa (paired with a smaller more mobile partner).
i thought the bbc coverage of the jubilee celebrations was apalling on the whole. no one put up had any knowledge and it was left to the viewers to make it up as it went along. the final straw was the jubilee concert fireworks being cut off to go to an advert on the euros. well done her majesty and her family and back to the drawing board for the amateur shambollocs of the bbc. er lord high admiral get well soon.
are the wobblers playing great missenden in a pre season friendly, or is it wendover ladies again. plenty of wibble wobble there then
Wasn't Wrexham Lager the first draught lager available in the UK pre-dating all the foreign stuff? Remember "Order Border the wine of Wales". Jubilee concert terrible. The one ten years ago was much better with a greater variety of acts. For organising that Gary Barlow should be sent to the Tower PDQ.
Jenny, the landlord at the Oak has just been done for showing Sky on a private license in the pub after several warnings, they also said he was in debt to the sum of £18k in the star. I did hear a while back that Gary the ex-landlord of the Abbey Hotel was going there, but guess he didn't make it. I guess Holt will head to Villa if he gets on with the manager. Birmingham look more an more in the doodoo with their manager switching to Norwich. Could be playing Brum in another season's time.
Has he indeed, I really didn't know?! I was aware that Adrian had an Arabic dish/box (or similar) as well, at a fraction of the price Sky charge pubs these days. You can watch every Premier game on a Saturday, live with one of them & I think they're above board..
KDS......absolutely correct.....can remember the taste now. It wasn't bad at the time. The lager that is! Rocky, your board must be quiet or do you love us really and can't stay away.....you're not a cyber stalker are you? Can't see us playing your lot for a few years really.
Metashrew have you tried the Castle Rock ales from nottingham? Really nice beers and also available in bottles at all good supermarkets hic!
Quite a few local pubs around here stock them....always good, never had a bad one yet! Even find the odd Salop ale as a guest around here....and even as far north as Matlock Bath! Enjoy footy in pubs and guests ales always good at pub near university here....except the Marstons Jubilee was a bit thin, whilst the Ringwood was a cracking pint! If Town ever play Derby again I'll produce a list of great pubs for the B&A boys and gals.
Well ive not replied on here for a while as im more the lurking type... So mr holt... personally i think he would be a fool not to accept a 2 year contract at a club where he is no 1 striker - he is 31 and most clubs are going to look at him as a striker potentially in decline and wont offer him a 3 year deal as its a significant risk. And please dont let him end up at villa - they have enough problems at the moment and need quality youth - not experience - they have plenty of that. Pubs to watch footy in - well... i go to the cinnamon bear bar... but i live in whistler in British Colombia... has a few micro brew beers... Pub in Ruabon - its good. Black Bomber cheese is awesome - i used to work at the base of snowdon and always got a wheel from the farm shop in rhug when i was coming back to town - also worth checking out is the merlyn baileys effort from the pendaryn distillery, really good. and finally i leave you with news that a shrewsbury town shirt was spotted in downtown vancouver last week, didnt get to stop and accost them but proof the shrews get everywhere... fs
Terry Dunfield?! Whistler's a fair distance! How dya end up out there? Are there any other ex-pats on 606??
Ah the dunfield now plays for toronto after playing 6 matches for the whitecaps... and its not that far away... only about 4500 miles to catch a game... basically got drawn here for mountain biking and skiing and now dont really want to leave... and besides it does have its advantage with footy too - premiership footy on free to air tv, and $20 for a good seat at the whitecaps with 30000 odd supporters per game
i always thought wrexham lager became the "friends of the urinal" in the loggerheads. rocky always drinks it, swears by it or at it. sadly mr holt is getting on at 31, and now rests frequently on the bench. when called upon to perform this he does, and scores at the cost of several fouls and the occasional penalty and sending off
4 inches of rain today and tonight in wales should produce a lively river severn in salop in a few days time. coracles on the gay meadow?
Those poor swans by the Welsh Bridge will be peed off with that! Just laid a new clutch of eggs after losing the last ones in the recent floods
At the start of last season I asked the question "How many goals will ex-Town players score against the Shrews?".......was the correct answer 'ZERO'?....I can't remember any. If so the winner was shrewdchemic.....spot on! but seeing as the next lowest guess was 5 he's probably the winner anyway!!! The prize is a few pints of ale in Derby if we draw them in the cups! or Atcham Jack may volunteer some of his fave scrumpy(?)
