Reading the Bruce out questions that's starting to be asked on the Hull board it got me thinking, where do we stand with Gus? Would you have any of our previous managers back instead Poyet. Came in with a massive job to do, kept us up and finished a fine cup run with a final appearance. he's had a bit of time at the club now so we can form an opinion. Since January we've managed picked up 35 points in 32 games. He made us very difficult to beat but struggled to get us creating and develop any kind of attacking momentum. Bruce Done a good job with Hull, brought them up, and kept them up and got them to a cup final and Europe the following season. Still got bags of support with Hull fans even if a few are starting to ask questions. Since January Hull have picked up 25 points in 32 games crashing out of Europe and the league cup early. McCarthy Never has money wherever he goes. Overachieved with us. Struggled with Wolves with a poor squad now building Ipswich into a very good championship side on a shoestring. MoN Didn't do well with us, missed his righthand man to much. Mixed results with ROI, still well down the fifa rankings, hardly setting the world alight. Keane Did a great job with us but Struggled without the cash at Ipswich. Now plying his trade as an Assistant. PDC Still out work, sure he'd take his first chance available. Nobody seems willing to take the risk. Any you would rather have back? Left Reid out as football has moved onto much to consider him
decent summary, I think gus is the real deal, i think he will take us to the next level, had he got williams and borini in the summer? who knows? he will have his targets and still has £14m in his sky rocket from then to burn, no doubt ellis will chuck a bit more in the pot aswel, occassionaly i've questioned his substitutions but recently they have been spot on, he is still finding his best 11, a very astute manager who is getting it right more often than not and is loved by the press and neutrals alike. he is developing into a top manager imho, he seems to learn very quickly which you have to in this game, i'm really pleased and feel lucky to have such a likeable person managing our club. would I swap him for any of the above, would i **** I am very pleased to see mick mac doing well at Ipswich (my 2nd team), i couldnt really give a flying one about the rest
it is what it is as it always has been, nothing lasts forever whatever ,good or bad, the wheel keeps turning ,at this moment in time we are in credit ,tomorrow it may reverse but its only football ,enjoy everything in the same manner, win or lose there are many who would like to see both ,draw breath and embrace ,today the air is ......good and free, enjoy.
Gus is the man for me....doesn't get everything right but no one ever does. Hope Ellis gives him a 4 year contract and let him build the club....
What i like about Gus and his coaching team is they have a football identidy, which he is slowly but surely building into the club and first team. The last few have all gone for a very quick fix, or tried to buy a quick fix, which always ends in tears a year or so later. The current approach is far better and healtheir, and when we do play well we really do play well and our players are a lot more confident on the ball. Only a couple of signings away from a very good team and squad. The best since Bruce in the early years, but hopefully much more stable a group.
If we stick with this guy, we will move onwards and upwards. I was thrilled Ellis didn't pull the trigger after the Southampton debacle, I actually think in a perverse sort of way, that result could be the making of Poyet as a manager.
It's quite an achievement by Gus & the players that we've picked up points in every game since bar arsenal..
I think he's the best we've had in recent times for sure. He seems to be tactically aware and has a style of play which he wants to stick to, regardless of the opposition and that is the way forward in the EPL. Whether he can get the correct personnel in to accomplish this is a different matter, as right now I don't think we do. We're not far off mind and January could be a turning point if we get the right players in. At least he has created a hard to beat team and a team that is good to watch, unlike the MON days of lumpball. He needs time, give him 3 seasons and then lets see what he has produced.
Still too early to judge, but the signs are promising. Comparing Gus with some of the others isn't realistic - thats just setting the bar too low with some of them!
I think it's way too early to judge him mate, but based on what I've seen so far I'm more than happy with. He's brought stability, confidence, he's very open and frank in his interviews and he seems to have the backing of both players and management. He's created a team that is hard to beat and play some pretty decent football at times, maybe add a couple or three players and we will be top ten imho.
to early to judge in my opinion, but I certainly feel in my bones that he will do the business if given the time..
This Basically, following his heroic baptism of fire last season and, very much in our minds right now, the performance against Chelski, he's earned his cornflakes
