Happy days, safe for another season. Why though do we (myself very much included) feel like celebrating staying up? Last pre-season we looked to MON to buy well and galvanise the squad , most of us were prepared to support him in his choices and get behind the team. After 6 games we had ( I think) 6 points, no goals but solid at the back. Where oh where do our goals come from? Fletch ok but not stellar, Graham we can't buy him a goal, we let Saha and FC leave and CW gets injured... I am glad we have PDC but see our squad as piss poor, it has gone wrong (IMO) as we have spent a lot of cash on **** over the years. We need to get rid get real and believe that a few years of not being relegated is progress, hope ES sticks in for the haul personally I can't see much of a future for anyone other than Fletcher Mig JOS Danny R ( if we can get him) Who else is good enough? Can't expect such a change and will see a few familiar faces but honestly would not give a **** if we lost the rest. We need a total refresh , will take time and patience but with PDC I hope we might make it. Happy days Have re-read and know it rambles but **** me we have been poor all season FTM
in answer to your OP question, my honest opinion is a lack of John Robertson, thats where it went wrong, MON is pish on the pitch without him and that includes the training pitch pish
You're probably right fella but FFS where do we go with a paper thin squad and most are a enrage epl at best
Our scouts have been ****e. Thank fook we've got a whole new scouting team in place for next season. We've missed out on so many decent players since Bruce left. We paid 5m for Graham, but for 2m more we could've had Benteke in August last year. Kone for Wigan cost 2.7m and Michu 2.5m.
Your 4 + Sess and was impressed with Colback at RB. Him and Johnson looked as if they could work well together. Other than them that`s about it.
Sess ok (under PDC) colback maybe Johnson 2 games per season not good enough... Pop Robson used to live near our village and his lad was a knob! As others have said before, it's the hope that hurts so much!
Made the same point on earlier thread - thank fook for that "17" it's all down to the board now. They gotta prove themselves. My only concern is that Ellis Short doesnt get the idea that this isn't worth it any more!
I think we now have a young, progressive and very ambitious manager who I firmly believe will do well if us the fans give him our full support..
Far from it imho, i would not be at all suprised if ellis has had the finest mathematical geniuses figuring out the permutations prior to mons sacking, he is making his move all right, this man at our helm does not lose. We have been saved from the brink by our Chairman, make no mistake, we were going down! **** this is gonna be good! £50m confirmed enquiry for cavani????? ffs, lets see if we can get nordic naked gonna start a nordic naked watch when the window opens
I would add Westwood as i have a feeling Mig will go, and we need a decent keeper. On 1 hand we cant do mass changes, it mostly fails unless you buy world class players, and I am sorry but we are not going to get 11 World class players. But on the other we do need a good clear out which based on this season is the vast majority of them. catch 22 situation. And I know i am in the minority, probably a minority of 1 on here but if we got a bid of £5million for Fletcher, I would bite their hand off.
Bruce put us in an awful position with his use of the loan system and his use of the free transfer system to sign anyone rather than look at the areas that need strengthening. His approach was crazy. MON came in and it could be argued that he would never have enough time to fix the broken squad. You could have argued at the start of this season we needed 2 full backs, a centre midfielder, a centre half and 2 strikers on top of Fletcher. I was happy with his signings but knew we were still lacking. I think what did for MON was a poor January window. Although Alfie should be better next season he's taken time to adapt. Danny Graham seems to have been a panic buy and I've no idea why he signed Mangane? Add to that that he allowed valuable squad members to leave an already paper thin squad, particularly Campbell and Mayler. For me O'Neill made the squad weaker in January. Paolo has a massive job to do and as mr Short has backed his last two managers with good money just how much more is in the pot? I honestly think you could spend 100 million and we would have a chance at a good top 10 placing. Realistically we are not going to spend that kind of money. Also Bruce has signed a lot of players who have no sell on Value also these players are our biggest earners. Brown and O'shea. Mon has consistently paid over the odds for players. I think a whole new approach will now be adopted to finding players. We now have our first foreign coach and scouting system. Will that be firing on all cylinders by now? Can we realistically expect a massive overhaul. Are we looking ahead to another season of struggle. Another thing we have seen at Sunderland is the rise of a type of footballer who would rather sit in our reserves collecting top wages rather than taking a cut and playing football. Paolo is going to have his work cut out shifting some of our players on.
the loans were Quinn and Short Quinn even admitted that they dealt Bruce a short hand that season, and things would change, they gave him 16 million and 11 players that just got relegated ffs. Bruce had his faults but this wasnt one of them.
So pay 12-14m for somebody, and then the next season sell for 5m. I'm glad you're not in charge of our club mate.
but he wasnt worth 14 million or 12 or even 7 imho sell while some sucker will buy him (no one else wanted him last season, only us Mugs or MON inparticular, another Heskey moment for me. (just not as good)
