Does anyone have a surprising stories of what some of our former players went on to do after quitting football. I once knew a guy who was in business with Alec Briggs who went on to a extremely successful business career and I recently mentioned Sean Dyche's success but the following came as a surprise (a PHD).

IN his playing days Wayne Allison was known as the Chief. He now officially goes by a different name, Dr Allison, though I cannot imagine he would let many people call him that. For a start he does not work in a hospital.
Four years after ending his playing career at Chesterfield, Allison was awarded a PhD from Sheffield Hallam University on the effects of high-intensity exercise on decision making in football.
He started his doctorate whilst at Sheffield United, some seven years earlier, having taken on an undergraduate degree at Manchester Metropolitan University aged 28 whilst playing at Tranmere.
Throughout these glory years when he was not playing or training Allison was studying or working on his coaching badges, often to the bewilderment of his teammates for many of whom formal education was long forgotten.

    Well done Wayne
Nowadays Allison can be found at the sparkling new St George’s Park facility applying those years of studying as the FA’s research manager for coaching. His role is to help tool the next generation of training ground thinkers with the most cutting-edge practices.
