I see Linton has taken up the role as Chief Exec at Barnsley following a successful spell in their commercial department. The old Chief Exec has gone to Leeds. Taken from the T&A in Bradford. Barnsley said in a statement: "Barnsley Football Club can announce that chief executive Ben Mansford has left the club to join Leeds United. "The board have appointed Linton Brown as acting chief executive and he will join the board with immediate effect. "A former professional footballer himself, Linton has built an impressive career off the field and boasts extensive experience within the football industry. "Significant progress has been made commercially since joining the club in 2014, with Linton being instrumental and very much the driving force behind the club's recent success."
Bloody hell, how has he managed this? I used to speak with him when he did whatever role it was in the commercial team and he never struck me as a CEO in a million years.
It was the launch of the electronic advertising boards at the KC that set him on his way, such a pivotal point in the history of the club and his career. I remember it like it was yesterday "city has an announcement at 13:00" (not sure of the time) and they built it up only to tell us they'd installed these advertising boards.....earth shattering, socks had to be held on with cable ties!!!
Arf. I also remember us calling a press conference to announce the signing of Bryan Hughes. That was another major blow to the region's footwear.
Wasnt he bought with funds raised by tigers fans? Put a tiger in your team? Will never forget him and Deano destroying Crewe 7-1
I still remember Burnsy's commentary, "He hits it now and he hits it home! Linton Brown, his first goal for the club"
He wasnt bought with the funds, they were used to pay his wages. As a result we all knew what he earned - it was 11k a year. How times change...
Played a part in the promotion push though! I remember him and Pederson dancing in Sugar Mill, Pederson was going mental with all these birds around him - still got the photo somewhere. (I wanted to remember how many times he played for us so typed 'Hughesy' into google thinking he'd be the top of the search ).
Pederson is an oft forgotten player - primarily cos he was injured so much - but when he did play he was brilliant. I remember him and Jay Jay ripping a team- Ipswich? - to pieces. Henrik was also a great bloke, he used to hang around with juniors more cos he thought a lot of our players were flash big-time Charlie ****s.
Yep that was the one. My main memory from that game was the piece of Jay Jay skill on the flank, so Im glad they showed it at the end. It was the best piece of individual play Ive seen in the flesh and he was unplayable that day.
