After the Swansea draw there was an awful lot of negativity on here. Shame the same people aren't as prolific with their articles after two very decent performances against Chelsea and City. Fair weather fans really piss me off
Well one reason is that we're obviously happier drawing against City than against Swansea or Norwich. And surely fair weather fans should actually post MORE when we've had good results..?
Agreed, not just the result but also the performance. Everyone one of our players put in the effort and thats what we want to see along with wins
There are lots of different types of Liverpool fans, this is something I find hard to take. It seemed to me that in years gone by we were a close group of fans that all thought the same way. Success may have been the catalyst. The more negative supporters are a mix of the old and new. The old are expectant and are used to the success of the past and feel that we should be at that same level. The new are the fans of Instanbul and West Ham FA Cup final, they are just as valued. This is all a stereotype and I know that as there are always the exceptions that have been taught to follow than club through tick and thin. I find it frustrating when fans attack the team and manager as I'm not used to it and all that disagree should fight against it. We are Liverpool and different from the rest. We need to stick together though it all, good and bad after all You Will Never Walk Alone. Players and managers are not beyond criticism and should never be. They are deserving respect and we should always remember that.
I think it's fine to criticise after a poor performance as long as it's balanced and constructive. Take with a pinch of salt the rants after a game like Swansea...this is a football forum and as such people use it to let off steam Fair to say whatever individual opinions are held by posters on here we all ultimately want the same thing...trophies back at Anfield AND to watch games like we witnessed today. Purely as an hour and a halfs entertainment todays game is exactly why we all love football. I know it seems like some fans are never satisfied and to be frank a lot of the post Swansea match criticism was OTT and was seriously getting on my tits. However those extreme opinions at this stage of the season are easy enough to counter because of the simple fact that after nearly a third of the season we're doing pretty well
I'm brimming after our last 2 games but I still don't think we're out of the woods yet. We still lack the ability to finish, which is noticed less against bigger teams as we just attribute it to their superior defence but rears its ugly head against teams we should steam roll. I never doubted our ability to beat the big teams, its those irritating draws against "easier" teams that could mean we miss out on fourth. Now I'm not saying we haven't improved bucket loads since woy, but we're still not where we need to be. I will support the team and the club no matter what so I wouldn't call my self a fairweather fan, but I do lean towards pessimism sometimes so it'd be fare to call me a pessimistic fan
TBH i see it as another 2 points dropped. The way we had city on the rope's in the last 25mins we should have seen them off no trouble, but we nearly lost the game in the last 5mins. If you had said we would get 4 points before the last 2 games i would of been happy, but the domination we showed in both games it should have really been 6. Although there are many positives we can take from the games, its clear to me that we are desprately lacking infront of goal and that may ultimately cost us.
I agree that our finishing has been poor all season. But I am very happy with the the overall improvement in the team this year.
Like I have been saying before the Chelsea game, the real test starts now for December with some very winnable fixtures. I am sure the comments will return in a couple of fixtures. As for the last 2 games, I would have been happy with just the 3 points off Chelsea. Last night was a bonus.
I've written what i think are fair reviews after matches and I'm neither doom mongering nor feel we're top of the world either. too many on this site and others doing distingush between people who set out a point of view and put work into it and those who merely write a one liner hating or abusing the side or a player. If i wirte a player isn't good enough I'm entitled to that opinion yet some love the old doom mongerer one liner to somehow prove all is rosy. zingy is right, the next 6 games or so look to be winnable game that can define a lot for us. If we get some traction between now and the 3rd round of the fa cup i think we'll look good.
We need to nail the next 5 or 6 games with as many 3 pointers as possible. That sounds pretty stupid, but we must put the ghost of dropping points against lower teams behind us.
We will have to wait and see if we have turned a corner in our next couple of games. Fulham away next, tough game but our away record has been decent. Then QPR at home - get 6 points out of those and the following fixtures also occur: Newcastle vs Chelsea Chelsea vs Man City I really hope we take advantage of our next 5-6 games
all games are hard, its just a question of making sure our quality is there, it's matched with urgency and effort and we don't let the terrible quality english lower sides outmuscle us. (wasn't swanse v villa an awful game? god that is the thing we need to overcome)
Absolutely agree mate, i don't understand how people enjoy being a supporter when the only thing that excites them is disappointment and anger when things aren't going so well! Some people feel the need to criticise when at the end of the day this is our club, we're allowed to look on the bright side. Bearing in mind where we were this time last year, the improvement is immense. Also We have the likes of henderson (u21 captain) and Carroll (the butt of many jokes but undoubtedly of huge potential) who have big contributions still to make. As well as that, some people get really wound up by the Norwich and Swansea etc. results without seeing the progress we've made. We always do well in the big games, fair enough, but where we have improved is some of the tough away games where we dropped points before (Stoke we still dropped points but played great, and the Hawthorns is a tough place to go as well as Goodison, not to count the Emirates and Stamford Bridge). If anything those draws against Norwich and Swansea (credit to them by the way) are surely the most easy of problems to rectify. As this team gels together it will give us the winning mentality that helps Utd get those scrappy late goals, and as players get more comfortable they will be more used to dominating teams like Liverpool should be doing. If we're going to have a problem then at least we have a fairly nice one. Weigh in the fact that several of the best goalkeeping performances all season have come against us, as well as the bad luck with regards hitting the woodwork so many times, and i think things are looking decent.
i get a squeeze deep in my belly whenever keepers get onto these fine shots. i think KK & co should work on pass accuracy inside the opposition's 18 box. some of our best players often shoot before thinking (no offence intended).
OP there will be more draws and more poor performances before we can go a season without ****ty spells. When the lads are up for it they can take on almost any team, when they are up for it, lets seee the same suffocating style against the QPRs ect, not the run yourself bolloxed in the first half and again with 10 minutes to go routine, patience is needed we are too rash sometimes at hme against so called lesser opp. Why not just play these teams like we do United and City, cmpact solid and suffocating the bastards making them work from CB to CF instead of offering space after running yourself silly and losing shape and concentration. 5 in the middle and we made plenty against City when it is the right 5 it can be 2 3, 3 2, 1 4, at times depending and the overlapping FBs, the overlapping FBs, did I mention the overlapping FBs
