I'm looking forward to seeing him (preferably as DM) for a full game as all of our Egyptians seem to be very skillful technically and now with Boyd available (who also fits that description) I think we will have an even better pure footballing side. The only handicap is the pitch which will stifle our potential a bit.
I agree, I can't see Fathi featuring much this season unless one of our full backs or central midfielders gets injured. His versatility however makes him a strong option to have on the bench.
I also agree, he may be a better option than those in the team. The message sent to the team by changing a winning side may damage confidence more.
I would start both Fathi and Boyd next saturday against Birmingham City and give either Meyler or Quinn a rest or both, subject to fitness. imo The Crystal Palace game 3 days later is the key one in as much as we can either Win and kill off there challenge or draw and keep them at arms length. imo
We don't have a side that's done that though, we've made changes to it between games anyway. Just off the top of my head Koren and Simpson switching, Evans in for McShane with Bruce dropping to defence.
As I've said before, I think Quinn could do with a rest, maybe come off the bench. Fathi could start in his place, otherwise I wouldn't change the system we have now, perhaps swap Boyd (using his current form to keep his confidence up) for Simpson.
We could be really cavalier and go for: Stockdale Hobbs Bruce Chester Elmo Fahti Meyler Koren Brady Boyd Gedo All of the front 7 have goals in them. Give Quinn a rest.
Fathi will probably start the Birmingham game in place of Evans, and Boyd in place of Koren. I'd expect Fathi to become a regular starter as he is a much better and more experienced player than Evans, with an all-round game...with Evans on the bench as his back up this season. I like Evans but its a case of men against boys in this instance. Fathi may well be the best of our three Egyptians...at least the Al-Ahly fans seem to think so and his international reputation says so. So i cant see Bruce keeping him out of the starting line up much longer as he gets up to a reasonable fitness level.
I think Koren will drop to the bench, Boyd going into Koren's position alongside Gedo, and I'd prefer Fathi to start rather than Evans. Evans is good, but too inconsistent really.
It was weird Brucey bringing oli on the other night. Maybe getting him ready for the brum game like he used him last time?
He will def start next week against Brum assuming he doesn't pick up a injury and will come off the bench against Bolton in the 60-70th min depending on our performance and score
Surely the answer us when SB thinks he is a) ready and b) more importantly, if he is better than the other options. We have seen 25mins or so of him, in which he showed very little so I guess we have to bow to the managers superior opinion of him based on what he sees every day. Like SB said, Evans helped make us tick on Tuesday, he is experienced in the DM position and the league so I would be surprised to see Fahti starting ahead of him. I imagine he will be an off the bench player in the main, unless an injury or suspension dictates otherwise.
