I was at a corporate event at the SOL recently and was looking at the appearance records and noted that in recent times the likes of Mickey Gray and Gordon Armstrong both came close to 400 appearances for us. Monty of course is way ahead of both of them. Do you think that the days of such long service for SAFC have gone - I think that Richardson and Bardsley are both over 100 now but I can't see eiter of those getting in to the list below. Will this list ever get a new name? # Name Years League FA Cup League Cup Other[6] Total 1 Jimmy Montgomery 1960â1977 537 (0) 41 (0) 33 (0) 16 (0) 627 (0) 2 Ned Doig 1890â1904 418 (0) 35 (0) 0 (0) 4 (0) 457 (0) 3 Len Ashurst 1957â1971 409 !403 (6) 26 (0) 23 (0) 0 (0) 458 !452 (6) 4 Stan Anderson 1951â1963 402 (0) 34 (0) 11 (0) 0 (0) 447 (0) 5 Gary Bennett 1984â1995 369 !362 (7) 18 !17 (1) 35 !34 (1) 21 (0) 443 !434 (9) 6 Bobby Kerr 1964â1979 368 !355 (13) 30 !29 (1) 14 (0) 21 (0) 433 !419 (14) 7 Charlie Buchan 1911â1925 379 (0) 32 (0) 0 (0) 0 (0) 411 (0) 8 Charlie Hurley 1957â1969 358 !357 (1) 26 (0) 17 (0) 0 (0) 401 !400 (1) 9 Gordon Armstrong 1985â1996 349 !331 (18) 19 (0) 29 !25 (4) 19 18 (1) 416 393 (23) 10 Michael Gray 1992â2003 363 !341 (22) 18 !17 (1) 27 !23 (4) 2 (0) 410 !383 (27) 10 Charlie Hurley 1957-1969 363 !341 (22) 18 !17 (1) 27 !23 (4) 2 (0) 410 !383 (27)
Wickham, Noble ? I dont know if we will ever see anyone joining that list. These days there is very little loyalty in football. Money talks.
Agreed - but the problem is of course if he is still flying this time next year Harry Redknapp will admit that he has always admired him!
Good point, if we get somebody capable of playing that many games he will probably be avery good player and likely to be poached by a club paying lots of cash. If a player is not that good he will probably stay but not play lots of games.
Anyone remember the poster who went by the name of Gordon Armstrong from BBC606? I still keep in touch with the lad on another site, and we're meeting up for a couple of beers in the Railway Club before the game tomorrow..He was always a good poster and I'm looking forward to meeting him...Anyone on here who is passing the Railway Club and wants to share a pint or two of the cheapest beer in town with me would be welcome..
We will never have a player to make play 300 games again.. They will come and go for a varity of reasons....
