We are now 10/1 on to win the league and 40/1 on to be promoted. The question is after which game will we become uncatchable. We have a reasonably hard run in so I would hope it would best be sooner rather than later. My guess we will be champs after we beat Swindon. What we don't want is to go to Preston and need to win.
If we beat Gillingham, Crewe, and Barnsley (all home games) and get something at Oldham we'll be on the brink of being Champions by the time we play Swindon I reckon
Are you sure about those odds LARED? They seem generous to me. What bookies? I'd place a few quid on if I were you..........
Although the mathematical certainty may be quite a distance away still I believe the reality of probability will be sooner than some might expect. There will come a time when the laws of probability are strongly in our favour and the likelihood of the 3rd place team catching us is no longer feasible. If we can get 6 games before the end of the season with anything like the cushion we have now then the chance of us winning promotion will not be in doubt. I have a firm belief that we are already at that point. Catch us if you can should be our motto and I think this squad has already bought in to that credo.
Swindon Game I reckon, live on TV and in front of our biggest rivals in the league. Hopefully a home game in front of our fans.
Where? When? But back this thread, I think it will be the Preston game. They will know they have to win but we will be in a position to sit back and take them on the counter. Bit like they done to us. JGF please don't put stats up saying impossible, it's a question asked by a fellow poster asking for everyone's opinion, not proof
Mathematically, I think the lowest we can finish is 16th. This improves normally every week and it wont be long until play offs are certain. Sheff U in 5th are 26 points behind which would take 9 games minimum to catch up- They can get a maximum of 36. Realistically, they shouldn't catch us. To go up, we still need a total of 98 points. 19 more out of a possible 30. 6 wins and a draw even allows for a maximum of 3 losses. Again, realistically, we shouldn't need that many. 103 points are needed to be champions and I think that will go as far as the Preston and Swindon games- Having had such a good return from our sequence of away games, it is vital we now follow this u at home.
I hope it's the Swindon game, be great to have it happen on TV. We can then record it, and keep to savour it, if the bad times ever resurface.
Don't see how the spoken words are 10 to 1 on and that's what I wrote i.e. not against . Still splitting hairs as the man was not a better. Incidentally nobody replied re my share of AFC bought at 8p let you guys know at 16p and this morning up to 21p. That's my season ticket paid for, for life (until it bombs?)
5 more points and we are guaranteed a play-off place. So by Tuesday night we could be certain of finishing in the top 6..... 8 more points and we will finish in the top 4.............. Then it is up to MK Dons, Swindon and Preston to challenge us for automatic and currently we have 15 point cushion over Swindon 3rd, so assuming we match both Swindon and MK Dons in the next 6 games we will have automatic promotion. Also assuming Preston as the team in form will carry over that form, the game v Preston could well clinch us a champions- even if we lose the odds are still in our favour
