Well in my 53 years on planet Earth we have always been shyte it’s just how bad that shyte has been that’s been the deciding factor. What do you think @Owld Feller?

I couldn't disagree more, I've had some incredible times with Sunderland that some supporters couldn't possibly match.

PL Bournemouth are currently many people's pet team, have a so called future England manager and big plans.

Have they won the FA Cup, taken 15,000 away for league games, scored 5 goals away to win promotion, etc etc.

Little Sunderland played a decade in the PL and beat their bitter rivals 6 times in a row ...

... I was there for 5 out of 6 and it was far from shyte <party>

I’ve had some great times supporting them as well. The fact is that the club for its size and support base have underperformed for years. There is no denying that.

    Nor would I mate.

But tbh very few clubs ever win anything.

Newcastle, bigger than us by far, haven't won a current major trophy in over half their entire existence.

Their last was in 1955 which is truly unbelievable for a club that size.

But, to be fair, they do have the Texaco Cup, Anglo Italian Trophy, Intertoto certificate, Airport, Faymass numbar 9's, Cathedral on the hill, entertainaarz, and once finished 2nd after blowing a 12 point lead at Xmas and are the Barcelona of the North. They MORE than make up for actually winning things like Liverpool and Man.United :emoticon-0102-bigsm

The time they beat Man Utd 5-0 gets trotted out time and again ...

... I can't remember what they won, by beating them, but it's really stuck in their mind.

One of the best times I have had as a Sunderland fan was just after we were relegated and organised going to watch southend away (the arnau game).

Rtg was awash with optimism after a **** season, the gallows humour was first class

I was at a family funeral in Chopwell and met a lovely old lady who'd been to Wembley in 1955 ...

... she won the raffle and her brother was over the moon as he thought he'd be going.

She went herself as a 17 year old from Central Station <laugh>

I remember when I started going on a regular basis in 75, just went to the odd game before that. Absolutely loved it, promoted in 76, relegated in 77 and every season seemed to be either a promotion or relegation battle which went right to the end. Think there was a season under Durban when we were safe with a few games to go and it seemed such an anti-climax. Mightn’t be for everyone, but if you can’t be pushing for a European spot, I’d much rather be bouncing around the divisions like we did then, than finishing 13-14th every year and knowing it’d be exactly the same the following season.
