Sitting there on the Wensum banks
    All peaceful and serene,
    Our ground, in pleasant countryside
    Some unspoilt and still green,
    For many years as accident-prone
    As old Mr. Bean,
When talking of football in our fine city

But now and then along the way
    From nineteen-thirty-five,
Since Carrow Road has been the place
    To watch our football, live,
There have been times, and not so few
When we could say we thrive,
When talking of football in our fine city

And one or two names do stand out
    Whose heads and shoulders rise,
Above the rest, in bringing us
    The occasional prize,
The visions they had at their time
Proved them to be quite wise,
When talking of football in our fine city

Both on and off the field of play
In our great times of need,
A knight in shining armour has
    Turned up upon his steed,
    Ready, despite the warning signs
    To inspire and to lead,
When talking of football in our fine city

And even in our darkest hours
Of which there´ve been a few,
Somewhere along the line there´d be
One who knew what to do,
No point in naming names, of which
There would be quite a queue,
When talking of football in our fine city

And through the past eighty-odd years
    Since Carrow saw the light,
Father to son, and son again
Of fans, have lead the fight,
    Without their backing and belief
Would we have reached this height,
When talking of football in our fine city

Now here in two thousand fifteen
    We find ourselves again,
Enjoying life at the top end
    Hoping for a long reign,
But should it, in May, be short-lived
I´m sure we´ll beat the pain,
When talking of football in our fine city

    Many cities of past repute
    Such as Bolton and Leeds,
Are languishing far from the heights
    Where they produced fine deeds,
Which proves not everyone can master
    Sowing the right seeds,
When talking of football in our fine city

One thing we´ve learned since ´35
    In this uncertain game,
    One doesn´t need a ´trillionaire´
    To bring fortune and fame,
Far less will do, if they´re good folk
How many can say the same,
When talking of football in their fine city. OTBC - INIT

That, sir, is stunning, what a fine talent you have and what a shame you put your faith in music and not in poetry to entertain us. I'm not decrying your musical talent, all I mean is there are many talented musicians, but very few poets with a genuine talent!

You´re very kind Dave, but I was never in doubt as to where my career was headed, and fortunately I enjoyed every second of it. The fact that since it ended, I ´ve managed to find an equally enjoyable outlet in words, is a huge bonus, and helps keep the creative juices flowing, for a bit, at least. :)

JR and stilljarold - :emoticon-0139-bow: - they´re more likely to be fewer and farther between from now on, but hopefully they´ll still make an occasional appearance.

Hi skald bor, without doubt your finest opus to date. Pity the Norns have curtailed your future efforts. Regards to you, Rex and hopefully your missus improves.

Yes, an excellent piece RBF, and it's amazing how many could be fitted into the various parts. A bright spot in the vacuum that is the 'international break'. Hope all is well with you and yours.
