When do you think Chelsea away support peaked?

    1 Early 70s...the Cup followings in 70
2 76-78... Div 2 at Wolves, Forest and back in Div 1
3 83-86... Brighton, Grimsby, Pompey in Div 2... then back to the Div 1 grounds and big turnouts in the North West and huge turnouts at derbies
4 88-90... back in Div 2: the raving crew and back to the Lane again!

Or maybe even more recently, say 98/9 on our Div 1 charge and 04/5 title year?

    Recollections please...

I've followed Chelsea from 1968 and the best away days were when we were banned by denis howell in 1977

    I can't really answer this:

    1: Wasn't born
2: Was just going to infants
3: Old man wouldn't go to the bridge let alone away games
    4: Wasn't living in London

    :(

Went to 3 CWC venues Salonika, Bruges and Final v R. Madrid in Athens, and we had great support at all of them. Even met all the players at the airport, seeing off their other halves after we had to replay 2 days later!(no penalty shoot outs in those days). Saw a few away games in Div2 and there were still a loyal band of supporters. Cant remember much about the mid 80's but promotion year 88-89 was fantastic. Because SB was basically a building site that year, I think you could only occupy the very small number of seats that were available that year. But I do remember the partying after the Portsmouth game when we won our way back to top flight.

There was a sports travel company that used to arrange things back then called 4S Sports. The trip included 2 nights hotel accomodation, flights and match tickets, and I'm thinking it was around £59. On our flight out Michael Crawford ("Frank Spencer" "Phantom of the Opera") sat in the seat in front of me. The only problem was that we drew 1-1 and the replay was fixed for 2 days later. We had to come home the following day. There were some on the same package who stayed on and couldnt re-use the flight tickets. The British Embassy had to get them home.
About 6 months ago I was clearing out my attic and came across 2 programmes from the match ,in mint condition. I put one on ebay and bids went up to £169. So in the end I did it all and made a profit of £110.

David Dryer sports travel rings a bell with me! I'm sure I've been on something with them as well. I suppose it must have been the Bruges game in the CWC. We got beaten 2-0 and they scored direct from a corner with a banana shot.Got em 4-0 back at the Bridge though! Happy days!!!!

I'm sure they were the biggest company in the sports travel business years ago, obviously nowadays deal with their own travel arrangements
