When did the owners of a football club become a major factor in what sort of club you are. 15 years ago i couldnt have told you who owned anybody but my own club, now any potential buyout is well publisided. Is it the dream of all fans to have a magic sugar daddy come in and buy everything that moves, instant success or are their still football fans out there who want the steady build up, the home grown players ect.
This. Regarding the OP's question about having an arab pumping money in or steady growth, it's a difficult question. I'm sure all of us would love to see our team made up of lads from Liverpool but all of us would love the greatest players playing for the greatest club in the world. Personally, i'm happy with the strategy our current owners are taking. I.e- A British core and focus on youth development.
This. -- On topic: I guess since money has become a key factor on the direction of a team. Nowadays teams need money to back them as one of the best in the world. The Premier League teams spend alot of money on foreign players, go down a league and the Championship has far less, although still more than a handful, as you drop each league the number of foreign players drop. If you want to attract the top players you have to pay top dollar, and since alot of teams want to be the best, the demand increases therefore, the wage increases, thats how we've got to the incredible ranges of average wages per player per league. But remembering that success, promotion or pushing higher up the table increases reputation to attract these players, sponsors, new fans etc. Its a large cycle, if played properly, alot of money can be made.
Why can't you just say Agreed ? I find it annoying too but didn't want to ask as everybody else seemed to be doing it and thought I was missing out on something..but now I know I'm not
