No surprise for me....But I thought he was a good manager so what do you guys think went wrong.............
I think he was hard done by a bit. The squad he inherited wasn't really very good and obviously for some, their hearts weren't in it. I think they should have sold Rooney for whatever stupid amount he'd have fetched and used the money to rebuild (maybe with some youngsters, although not ours!). I don't feel overly sorry for him though, its the nature of the game, and £5m should help him get over it. Also, you know he's going to walk into the next vacancy. Newcastle maybe.
Not surprised that he has gone after the story broke yesterday. I felt that they would give him at least part of next season, as he still had the public support of Sir Alex, and Bobby Charlton. However, it was clear that the performances have been very poor this season, and for United's standards, so have the results. What i will say, as I mentioned on the Premier League Thread, that Ed Woodward, the Chief Exec (or whatever title he has) should also follow him out the door in this case. One of the main reasons people think United have had a poor season is due their ageing squad, and the dreadful summer transfer window they had last year. That wasn't Moyes' fault. The chief exec is the guy who does the deals, and he didn't do his job properly. Moyes has taken the flack for that. People even bring up that stupid "dithering dave" description, saying it is his fault, but I don't know how it can be. People are directing the blame to Sir Alex as well, but he made a suggestion to the board, and they went with him. Moyes, although he hadn't won anything at Everton, had done a wonderful job there. No one can deny that. Everton fans are quick to big up Martinez now and talk down Moyes, but they weren't saying that at the time. Unfortunately, through luck or whatever else, he hasn't been able to beat the 'big' teams in the league. At Everton, it wouldn't be a huge issue, but at United, it is vital if they are to win things. I think they could have strengthened significantly in the summer to challenge again next season, because no European football may actually be a help, just as it has been for Liverpool. His team selections have been questionable, and he has named different line ups in every single game this season, and also tactically he has been found wanting at times. His body language, demeanour, and his post match interviews, especially in the last few weeks, have shown that the writing was perhaps on the wall. The United fans have been continually supportive of Moyes and the side during games. Usually, there will be unrest in the stands and ill-feeling towards the manager and the team, but I think they have been excellent actually in sticking by him. I hope this won't damage Moyes' reputation too much, because he is a good Premier League manager. Maybe, this job, coming after Sir Alex, just came at the wrong time for him.
Moyes fell out with some of the senior players who didn't like his management style. He didn't live up to some of the fans' expectations, and probably the owners wanted a quicker return to the good times. I thought he should have had at least another season, after all, Fergie wasn't a brilliant success at Man Utd when he first went there, taking nearly five seasons to win his first league title. Modern football team owners obviously don't have the patience that the Man U board did in the late '80's and early '90's, however.
Many of the United players should be going too, for their half-hearted displays. He`ll be back as a success in the prem again, and he`ll enjoy sticking it to United (I hope).
On the other hand though, delighted to see Ryan Giggs in charge of Manchester United, albeit on a temporary basis.
For me it's telling that Everton have done better this season than last, and indeed better than Man Utd, from a similar starting point as Man Utd. I feel for Moyes, but I think it's probably the right decision. One thing though - Alex Ferguson should step away completely. It's an impossible job with him and other key figures of history lurking in the background.
So now I wonder what if David Moyes actually underachieved at Everton and they would have done better with a different manager all these years
Whatever else he may be in professional terms, David Moyes comes across as a decent man who has behaved with dignity through a pretty rough season. So I have sympathy for him, though it's beginning to look as though he wasn't up to the job. On the other hand, I have to admit that watching Man Utd and their legion of supporters suffer has been one of the guilty pleasures of this season. If I have one regret about this season, it's that we failed to finish above that lot, because we'll never get a better a chance. Let's hope we can round off the season by stuffing them in May.
I think the Man Utd job was (and perhaps still may be) something of a poisoned chalice. Ferguson timed his exit well - the Man Utd squad still had/has some very good to excellent players but a few of them are the wrong side of 30 and overall it's sorely in need of an overhaul. Obviously Moyes has been quite poor there but I don't think he's done quite as badly as people make out. Everton have improved but they're only one place higher than they were last season and they'll need to replace Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu this summer which means spending big just to stand still.
Don't worry about rep. It's an overplayed item. FWIW, I agree entirely, as well. You've put it very well. Now let's see my rep disappear too.
Not that I care, but it seems the same user has given me bad rep as well for an innocuous comment about Danny Ings a few days ago. Perhaps something for the mods to look into?
Images like this sum up why he was never gonna last as United manager. Didn't have anywhere near enough mental toughness to last. please log in to view this image
