With the provisional calender having just been released looking like an utter logistical mess it got me thinking about trying to get a more simplified calender that is team and fan friendly (unlike to ever get that with the FIA). Here's my effort for 2014. 16 March â Australia 30 March â Malaysia 13 April â China 27 April â Bahrain 11 May â Spain 25 May â Monaco 8 June â Canada 15 June â America 29 June â Britain 13 July â Germany 20 July â Austria 3 August â Hungary 31 August â Belgium 7 September â Italy 21 September â Singapore 5 October â Russia 19 October â Japan 2 November â Abu Dhabi 16 November â USA 23 November - Brazil Basically I have tried to eradicate the boring the 3 week gap between races and reverted to a more traditional 'race every fortnight' calender. It makes sense to pair Germany and Austria together and have Britain on the last week of June unlike in the current provisional calender. Plus the teams still get their 4 week summer break, I also believe F1 should always be aiming to have a significant number of races during the European summer unlike this year as chances are you are likely to get more people watching on Sundays when there is no Football. I've obviously based mine on the current environment but I would really like to see a few classic venues to return so feel free to add venues in your calender which are not already being planned to be on a future calender.
16 March - Australia 30 March - Malaysia 13 April - China 27 April - Bahrain 4 May - Abu Dhabi 18 May - Spain 1 June - Monaco 15 June - America 29 June - Canada 13 July - Britain 27 July - Germany 3 August - Austria 10 August - Hungary 7 September - Belgium 21 September - Italy 5 October - Russia 19 October - Singapore 26 October - Japan 9 November - USA 25 November - Brazil Abu Dhabi moves to the front of the calendar one week after Bahrain for the sake of travelling less, same with Germany/Austria and Austria/Hungary. Singapore/Japan is the only other back-to-back race with only one back-to-back at the end of the season so they're more spaced out and this pairing fit best. Russia in front of Singapore that way you don't have to pointlessly travel the length of Asia from Italy to Singapore and back again to get to Sochi and then once more to get to Suzuka.
If we can bring back 'old' circuits, then I'd love to see the pre-91 Silverstone layout and Osterichring before it became the A-1 ring back on the calendar. In the real world, I'd controversially shelve (yesh mish moneypenney) Barcelona as it just serves up dull race after dull race and put Paul Ricard back using as much of the last GP layout as possible.
I'd like to see the French GP return at Magny Cours, but if that isnt possible how about the Circuit de la Sarthe track that the Moto GP guys use? Pretty good track, iconic, can get a lot of fans there. Just need to rely on the French government not to cock it up
As much as I hate it as an F1 fan, I'd keep the summer break. Gives the teams and drivers a well-earned break and time to see their families
Australia - Always the starting point Argentina - dip through South America like we used to Brazil India - First part of asia China Malaysia Monaco - traditional Europe Spain Canada - mid point North America USA Mexico UK - The European classic season France Germany Belgium Italy Russia - East meets west Bahrain - End in asia Abu Dhabi Japan - Has to finish here 20 races.... done (maybe kick Bahrain for another race)
