OK, in an effort to further foster the nice, positive loving relationship between our two sets of glorious fans, I am posting this on both boards, is that a bit OTT do you think?, anyway, what’s wrong with us up in the northeast?

We have two premier teams but can include Boro because they had the same treatment, why our second rate profile? Granted during the Keegan years the Newcastle profile lifted and we got some press through Keane, but.

From MOTD to Sky Soccer Saturday, from attracting players to attracting managers it always seems a little harder for our clubs. I understand that a top 4 club will always be a better draw but we seem to struggle when up against teams around us, further south the more attractive, why?
Setting aside all the ours is bigger than yours crap we both have good stadiums, passionate support, attendance better than most. Over at Sunderland I’m hoping the likes of Gyan signing will signal the breakthrough, a top ten finish and cash in the bank will mean no excuses in the summer. Can we outdo Man U, Arsenal,Chelsea, Liverpool or Spurs, no and we certainly cant outbid City. If however we are up against Everton, Fulham, Villa I would expect us to win the race.

I know the answers to the questions, at least I know mine, what’s yours?

I think most foreign players don't know anywhere other than London or Manchester. I can just imagine the likes of Asprilla and Gyan getting the atlas out when the offers came in. A lot of the younger players would be looking at London & Manc nightlife as well. And the weather.

I think all the Northern football correspondents from London reside in Watford.

This, foreigners all want to go to London, or play for Man Utd. Shame there aren't more like Tiote who prefers Newcastle to London as it's less chaotic.

Syd - I know you're THE super/uber mod, but this warm all encompassing malarky now has my skin crawling.

Not ONE single "P*** o** Mackem b******" comment directed to either myself or others today. Come on you lot of deluded barcodes... do the decent thing, and let's get back to normal <ok> <whistle>

London has an estimated population of over 7 million people, Birmingham and Manchester over 2 million. Any half decent sized cities in close proximity will benefit from the sheer capital being distributed. More upmarket areas to live in, more upmarket retailers, more glamorous nightlife. It all goes hand in hand. Compare to Newcastle with a population of 800'000 and sunderland with about 250'000 with no other major cities for over 100 miles and we don't really stand a chance. Add to this the very clear media bias and it makes it even harder to compete.

    This!

I'm guilty of it too though, PSG will always be a bigger club than Lille or Bordeaux purely for proximity, and if I were going to play for a French team PSG would be high on the list. Same with Bayern always being top dogs in Germany or Ajax/PSV in Holland.

    P.S. P*** o** Mackem b******

U say Newcastle and Sunderland are struggling to attract players, but wasn't Gyan one of the stars of the World Cup and wasn't Ben Arfa meant to be one of the best up and coming players in the game, not bad that like. There have been plenty of players signed for Sunderland or Newcastle who I never thought they'd have a chance of signing. Maybe that is down to our self perception of people perceive Newcastle and Sunderland.
