If today's media reports are to be believed then Everton are 24 hours away from luring Koeman away from St Mary's, and players named such as Wanyama, Long & Pelle could follow him out the door.

This could be the, second time in recent seasons that their fans are facing losing the back bone of a decent team. If it happens is it down to them being based on the south coast away from the so called glamour areas of football, similar to us.

I know they recovered from the last exodus but can they keep running the club in this way, fans must be looking suspiciously at their Chairman if this happens.

Isn't there Chairman a member of the mega rich Swiss family Liebherr, the Engineering Group ? Wouldn't have thought they would have to sell players but Walcott, The Ox and all the recent sales say otherwise. Would have loved to have seen some of that talent at our place.

You can't stop a manager wanting to leave if a better offer comes along.

Everton are a bigger name than Southampton so why wouldn't he go?

It doesn't mean the Saints are screwed though. They have a fantastic academy and a good reputation for being a well run club. They'll be fine.

Blunham, totally agree Koeman is entitled to go elsewhere if he thinks he's bettering himself.
I suppose the point I was trying to make as this is,the second time around if it all comes off is it down to the club's location like ourselves not in an area players think is,beneath them to go.
How do clubs combat this, you can't alter the location of your club so I suppose qualifying for Europe or winning trophies is the only way to change things, although aren't Southampton in Europe this season whilst Everton aren't, but I suppose if he goes he's looking at the bigger picture and hoping in the long term he can make Everton a lot better than they currently are, the only problem with that of course is being given the time to turn things round and not shown the door after 18 months.
    Only time will tell.

I get what you're saying about location. Keano found that out to his cost when he was trying to get players in.

Southampton's only about 70-80 miles from London but you'd think it was on another planet for some players.

They're a well established club now so they'll be able to sign good level players. Just not top level.

Bigger club with new found wealth.

Simple as that really, Southampton are and will remain a very good club, Everton now with the investment can go a lot bigger.

Everton have to be the most overrated club in the country..They don't have massive support or have not challenged for the title in a long while..Why do some go on as if they are a football giant?

Well said on all fronts. <applause>

We'll be fine I reckon. The managers job at Saints has never been such an attractive. The names being bandied about are mental really seeing as we were in admin facing League 1 on -10 (best case) just 7 years ago.

Said in other places that we were ****ed when we sacked Adkins for Poch. Then we were ****ed again when he left for Spurs. Now we're ****ed cos Rons left?

We've improved our league position every season under this ownership and while it will be insanely difficult to do that again next season, I don't see a sudden collapse either.

Even if we go for an up and coming manager like Howe for example, then he will still be off in a couple of years if he succeeds and a big club comes calling. Like you say though if we get the right man in who suits the club - which the board have been spot on with so far - then we'll be fine.

I'm just looking forward to a proper European campaign whoever the new man may be :)

<laugh> I said they were a bigger name. You've rearranged my words, added a few and turned it into me saying they're a football giant.

Someone soured your beer today RAW?

Soton cannot keep selling players like Long etc, or eventually they will cop it. I wonder if Everton went after Rafa ?

We offered Ron £2.75M a year, Everton came in and put.....get this £7M a year on the table. He turn coated and ran out the ****ing door. The 6th highest paid manager in world football as of today. I'm a big fan of his, but I didn't want my very well club getting into a bidding war of that proportion, that would kill us far quicker than letting the top players leave every couple of years.
Les Reed & the owner have done well by us, now the sensible fans will have to trust.
As for Ron, well worth getting sacked ASAP! <laugh>

    Why?

Their history for a start, though I have reservations about the word 'Giant'.

They also have done something that us older supporters would have given a lot to see Sunderland AFC achieving.
They are one of the two Premier Lge Clubs that have ONLY played in the top League since 1945.
Yes they have occasionally flirted with relegation battles but they have not succumbed.

That small fact alone gives them some kudos if you were a player who was offered a choice between them and, say, us.

Having gone through all our relegation battles I confess to envying Everton Supporters.

Well i for one don't think Everton are an especially big club. Had a good team in the mid 80s. Crap stadium and poor attendances. They desparately need new stadium.

    Everton not a big club?

Would you class SAFC as bigger?

I said an especially big club. They are a big club of course. I honestly think they're no bigger than us. And neither are Villa even before they went down.
