I though Rogers couldn't come after any of our players, so why are these rumours still rife? If this article is to be believed though, we could be asking in excess of 20 million for him. I'd be taking that http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...er-liverpool-tell-swansea-to-name-their-price
Hmmm, I'd take £20m too but he'd be difficult to replace. Shame Maxi Rodriguez and Kuyt have gone home otherwise I'd take £20m plus one of them.
It is no surprise, despite the gentlemans agreement made by the two clubs. I have no doubt Rodgers is leaking interest to the press in an attempt to Unsettle Joe. He done exactly the same with siggy. Saying I must let him speak with Swansea but if they don't sign him then we want him at liverpool. That came back and bit him on the arse and good enough for the lying toe rag and i hope this one does as well. Saying that if they are talking in terms of 20 miliion then i may be persuaded. It has to be one payment though.
I'd snap their hands off for £20 million but I think that's pie in the sky to be honest. However, Allen is worth a lot more than the £10 million being reported. We shall wait and see, probably until after the Olympics, whether these rumours harden into concrete offers.
I can't see us accepting anything below £15m for him, but the important thing here is that if he wants to go in the first place. It is up to him to agree to go, we shall see if this comes to fruition or not soon enough, one thing if TeamGB wins the Olympics it will increase his value being part of that.
This is my first post. Hi. I don't think I would even want him to go for 20million. He's such an important part of our midfield, like Britton. Can't see who could replace him.
Another factor to take into account is the fact that his Mrs is due to throw calf on the 25 of next month. I have it on good authority that she's not keen to uproot any time soon as she's going to need her mother to help out with baby Alfie Allen when he's born
Hi Tom , welcome , agree the monies quoted we could never had dreamed about two years ago but the point is losing yet another integral part of the side regardless of how much we get for him . very important player who will be difficult to replace ,although he's gone for the preseason hopefully thats only temporary
get realistic if we get £10 million for him then we would have done well......sell him and attach add ons if he wants to go, we cant afford to mess about with players that want to be elsewhere....there are other players that will take his place and we need to know so we can prepare ourselves....
Glad to see someone being realistic! I would be surprised to see him go for anything more than 8-10m, and that's if big Huw really wanted to keep him! Realistically, there are better players out there for those prices and it's only because of 'Brit tax' you'd end up with anything close to 10m. From a Norwich fan who watches most Swansea games!
So explain the Henderson figure. Whilst i agree that every player has its price. I think it is a little more than ten. Rodrigues (forgive my spelling). Untried, untested at this level, playing for an average Championship side, not a full international, not a gb player, without a succesfull season in the PL. 8 million. Why do we undervalue our players. If Allen was at Sunderland or an Everton they would be talking about a lot more money. It is not which club you play for it is how good a player you are, also it is a case of whether you need to sell and the length of contract he is on. Liverpool will no doubt get him if they really want him, but pay what he is worth in todays market.
Charlie Adam, who was at least as influential for Blackpool as Allen is for Swans, cost Liverpool 7m, and that was negotiated up! I know they were relegated, but I think you would be naive to not take 10m!
it's about how much they want him. If they want him pay the asking price if they really want him. As you say Adam was a championship player when sold.
agree big hairy ....fans do tend to think their player is worth much more than they actually are and allen is an example of that. He is a good player at times but average most of the time and like you say there are better out there. If we can persuade him to stay then in a couple of seasons time he might be worth £12-£15 million and then again he might not.....he has not proved himself yet to be worth huge sums of money....Liverpool would be ideal for him if he wants to make it really big as teams like swansea and norwich are the stepping stones for these type of players. Its money more than anything that clouds their judgement and a lot of young players end up not making it....joe needs to get real as he is way behind players who play for the big teams......
I don't actually think he is worth more than 10million. My point is he has grown up in the Swansea system since he was 9. The Swansea way must be ingrained in him. Regardless of money; to sell and then replace him with another midfielder would hinder the team for the short term.
Why do so many people think its good value to sell our best players?? as far as im concerned Joe Allen is a player that we should be looking to build around not sell off to the highest bidder, what would people prefer, £20m for Joe and a transfer gamble on somebody who may or may not do as well? We know he can perform at this level, and what people must realise is that we are Swansea city, who pay no more than 25k a week in wages, hardly exciting enough to tempt players who will be as good as Joe Allen and proven at this level, if you have a look around at what some players of his standing are getting paid elsewhere then you will see how difficult it would be to replace such a young local talanted player!! We can afford to pay bottom end transfer fees with bottom end prem wages, lets not get above ourselves by thinking every player is easily replacable because i dont think they are, least not the likes of Joe Allen who is one of the few assets who can kiss the badge and mean it!! What price do you put on replacing that? If he makes moves to go then fair enough,he is entitled to do that,he has been great and worked hard for it . moving to a top 5 club would be well within his talent..if its the right club ie, Arsenal,Spurs,Man utd maybe even Liverpool but unless he really wants the move i think all the fans should be dead against this . Patter from the terraces will eventually make the player himself beleive that he may be better off elsewhere, especially if people think the money can be better spent elsewhere, what happens if he goes? will the likes of Neil Taylor,Ash williams,Dyer,Sinclair,Vorm and DG start thinking the same? i know i would if was watching the club sanction a move to weaken the squad and make everybodies already difficult job alot harder!! its a house of cards scenerio IMO if one goes it will open the floodgates for others to go. Remember Bodde? the swans refused to sell him, that sent out the message we wernt a selling club,of course its going to be much harder in the prem league with all the stupid money flying round but once you start making it easy for the vultures they will all come in and rip the club to bits! if its just about the money then that will be the end of the prem dream, if we hold firm and try our hardest to keep every single asset here, even paying the highest we can pay then that is surely the way? Some People have always thought the swans small minded, listening to some of the comments on here its quite worrying to think that it might actually be true! How can we build the club and aim for 30,000 +seats if we sell the family silver, sure we are a stepping stone premier league club as the likes of Gylfi have shown, nothing wrong with that,it served Bolton well for years but they also had a mix of loyal well paid players who were the engine room of their success. They had the icing on the top with the likes of jj okochca and a few others, but they had a strong club framework in which was the driving force, the likes of Joe Allen can be that for us at least for another season. Many people are forgetting one crucial point, season 2013-2014 will see an increase in prize money to a minimum £60m pounds, thats an extra £20 on top of what we are getting now, keep joe here at least for the short term and keep the playing squad as strong as possible as survival this season will pay bigger bucks the following season, that will secure a stadium expansion and fund higher wages and transfer fees, wages that may well be enough to keep good talent at the club for many years . Its truely madness to entertain the thought of making us weaker when the longer term benifits far out weigh the short term! Lets stop thinking like we did in the past,we are not the swans of old we are a thriving up and coming club with growing support that should be worked on and improved, it starts with the mind set of its supporters!! sorry for the rant folks but there comes a time when we must circle the wagons and fight for our own, if the message boards and terraces start thinking its good to sell of our best players it might just happen, if we dont care about keeping them then why should they(the players)care about staying ?
The thing is we hold his contract, if Liverpool or any other team want to come in for him, they must accept our terms its that simple, we hold all the cards and Huw has stated that we will not sell cheaply, £15m minimum is about right, if teamGB wins and he is part of that I can see the figure going up by 20%-30%. Superswan you keep on saying we must be realistic, well that applies to you also, the club is not hurting for money so they will not compromise our position for this
