Paid all that money for him, doesn't seem to be getting much of a look in.

Waste of money or will Poyet give him a chance?

I'm sure he'll get his chance if he shows enough in training, and when he gets his chance in a game.

He has looked off the pace, understandably, until now. But he needs to get over his past failure/injuries now or he'll become a very expensive forgotten man. I do wonder if ball playing centre half may be a better position for him, which is wher he started out. Far from certain he has the energy and gumption for a driving, box to box midfielder.

Id start him today. Let's see what he can do. He should be fresh and raring to go. Id play him advanved of Larsson and Bridcutt which should give him a bit of freedom to get forward.

Worth a try, we need to see something for 10m. Hes been no replacement for either Colback or Gardiner imo.

I said when we signed him in the short term I'd rather have Colback but long term I think if we are careful with him initially Rodwell is a much better all round player

He should play today, I'd love to see Giacch start as well but can't see it

Hoping to see Jack start today and to show us why we signed him!

Seb has been undroppable all season and Gomez has done well. But after that 2nd half performance no one is safe so I'd like to see him start today.

Have to say, Mane at Soto cost the same, and I'd take him over Jack in a heartbeat.

Sanchez at Villa today was impressive, and Charlie Adam is a typical old fashioned box to box player.

Maybe we should play him as a centre half.

I think, after today we have signed the wrong Jack.Jack Colback should not have been allowed to leave for nowt.We should have given him a new contract instead of paying ten million pounds for Jack Rodwell, who is looking like another injury-prone player at our club.

His direct competition in the team is Seb, and with Seb being our stand out performer so far this year this part explains why he ain't played.

With Seb going off esrly vs Villa, maybe we'll see Rodders vs City and Leeds? If not, then i'll be concerned we've spent v. Poorly. He should not have been that far away from 1st team footie, so i suspect the problem is in his head, not his body, which is more of a concern.

He's not even making the subs bench. He must either be really **** in training (or lazy) or he's pissed Poyet off somehow.

10 million quid, you'd expect a bit more from him, i was ower the moon when we signed him, was thinking Catts, Giacc, Johnson and Rodwell, squad was looking canny

JACK RODWELL could get a chance at former club Manchester City on Thursday, despite being left out of the Sunderland squad at Aston Villa.

Big money summer signing Rodwell wasn’t even on the bench for the Black Cats in yesterday’s 0-0 draw at Villa Park, with head coach Gus Poyet confirming afterwards that the £10million midfielder’s absence was tactical.

Rodwell’s only contribution over the last five games has been as a stoppage time substitute in the Tyne-Wear derby.

But with fellow midfielders Seb Larsson and Liam Bridcutt both doubts for the New Year’s Day’s trip to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, Rodwell could be handed an opportunity at the Etihad.

“No, it was tactical,” said Poyet when asked whether Rodwell had been injured.

“I need him. I know it’s going to sound stupid, but I had a view of the game and what I needed.

“But next week, with Anthony (Reveillere) and Patrick (van Aanholt) back, they are all going to be important players in the squad.

“It’s fantastic for the manager, terrible for the players. But I’m sure Jack will bounce back and probably have a great opportunity on Thursday with the injuries in midfield.”

Bridcutt came off with concussion during the first half yesterday after an accidental collision with the knee of Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Larsson then suffered an ankle injury before the break and although he managed to continue until the second half, it was clearly affecting him.

When asked whether the pair would be fit for City, Poyet said: “I don’t know. We’ll wait and see.

“I think we’ve got plenty of players back now, so we can cope with the situation better.

“Liam has concussion, and with the new rules you need to be careful.

“Seb has twisted his ankle. It is ligament damage, but nothing serious – a few days.

“We were unlucky. When you have the chance to win a game, when the opposition goes down to 10, the manager has a chance to do something with the changes.

“But we had two bad injuries, so I couldn’t really affect the game as much as I would like.

“It’s not an excuse. It’s why I am here – to affect the game somehow – but I had only one change with which to do that.”

I don't remember him looking knackered after any games he's played for us. I suspect it's attitude/mental, perhaps scared of getting injured again? Or He thinks he derves to play coz he is a talent?

Whichever reason he needs to pull his finger out or kiss his premier league career goodbye.
