I'm in Dept of Manche, about 30 miles from Jersey. Seems to have it's own micro climate. Looks as though it rained overnight last night but the sun's out again.
This is my first entry to either this or the 606 site although for some time I've been following the threads posted by Ron and Rockybluearmy in particular, which are always good to read. Always enjoy Jenny's comments as well but why anyone bothers replying to the Colchester comedian, whose name I have forgotten, I don't know. As my name implies I'm a WW supporter from many years ago - first went to see them in 1954. Don't get down to Adams Park as much as I would like but always follow the score during the game avidly. I think we've got a more than good chance of going up automatically this year and more importantly, staying up. Just wish we could unearth a goalscorer.
Hi Loaksey. In my childhood days I lived quite close to the Gasworks and used to walk to the match at LP every home game. Swarms of people and a great atmosphere. I take it you saw some of the great matches in those days, eg Middlesbrough. Do you remember teams like Pegasus and their grey haired winger Pawson and Walthamstowe Ave with their great player Jim Lewis? The Ave took Man Utd to 2 replays I think. Some big giant killings in those days.
Sy, we do get plenty of rain (great for the grass). A lot of it seems to be overnight. Generally it's about 2 degrees warmer than UK South but not much in it. I went to Brussels once. It was to a dog show not far from there but we went to the square and saw the little statue (took a while to find it). My daughter jumped for GB in Belgium (Liège) when she was on Ponies. Armchair, haven't actually seen any. We have a family of herons in our hay field and get a few deer prancing around. We did have a lovely barn owl but have only seen it a few times. I take you've been here. What part(s) did you visit?

lol - Ah yes the Manneken Pis, there is a girl statue as well over the opposite side of the Grand Place. Leige is one of the bigger cities in Belgium (Not that it's a big place!) but I much prefer to venture to Gent or Antwerpen. I hope your daughter won for Great Britain! It's true about the weather I find in the summer it's slightly warmer than the UK and in the winter it's slightly colder than the UK, but as you said the difference is only between 0 - 5 degrees.
Lived in South west france for nearly 2yrs. Have been to Brittany, very quiet. Also travelled and stayed a few nights here and there in Normandy, lovely countryside. We lived about 90km north of Bordeaux. Great people, great weather, great wine, great food, but due to the collapse of the pound against the Euro, lost nearly 25% of the value of my pension. Still have lots of friends still out there.
Sy, yes they won team gold, one of many. Armchair, so where did you stay in Normandy? Did you visit Le Mont Saint Michel? Part of Manche but close to Brittany. As you go north there is Avranche, then Granville, Coutances and Saint Lo. Then of course at the top is Cherbourg. Saint Lo is the capital of Manche and home of the National stud. The World Cup (Equestrian) is being held in Normandy in 2014 with a lot of it being in Saint Lo. We are 20 mins from Saint Lo and just under 20 mins from Coutances. There are 2 international show jumping venues in Manche and we are within 20 mins of both and my daughter has jumped at both on horses. We are also about 15mins from beaches and for my son when he's here5mins from the local golf course and 30mins to a seaside golf course Coutainvile (really nice and my son became a member). The seaside resorts aren't like UK though (nowhere near as commercialised, unless you go to Deauville which is 90 mins away). Hope you aren't getting bored. For me it's better than talking about losing to Bradford.
Yes we have visited Mont Saint Michel, and loved it. The sea port of Dinan in Brittany is also a favourite. When we were living in France we stayed quite close to home. Cognac was very close, as was Sainte, fantastic roman ruins. For the coast you cant beat Royan. Also miss the brocantes. As for yesterday, just a blip. Given a bit of luck (lewis's shot(great save), Mclure's miss, and rub of the green(given the penalty),we would be having a different chat. Can't stand all the doom mongers, one loss and we are doomed, pathetic. We have got a good squad of players, and great morale. Bradford seem to do better against the better teams,( look at their results). Lets put yesterdays game to bed, and concentrate on getting behind the team. Onwards & Upwards COYBssss!!!!!
well said ron we deserved a draw but we didnt get it but the ref and bad finishing were to blame.i have seen enough of the blues home and away this season to say that we have a great chance of going up.
Ron - where to start. Yes I do remember Pegasus, Jim Lewis and many more. Semi-final v Corinthian Casuals at Highbury, Rail trips to Ilford and Hounslow for Amateur Cup ties and an F A Cup tie against Wisbech when we were 2 down after 3 or 4 minutes and won 4-2. I could go on for ever! I'm interested in your exchange with armchair boy - we've got a house just outside Saintes in Charente Maritime - probably next door to armchairboy without knowing. Don't get down there too often unfortunately. Hope it was just a blip yesterday but we can't win them all in any case. Never too sure about blaming the ref, Rocky. In my experience it balances out across the season. Annoying at the time though.
Corinthian Casuals at Highbury. What a game that was. Down to 9 men at one stage and Denis Syrett in goal not being able to raise his arm above shoulder height after being crashed against the post, no substitutes. Then Len Worley and Paul Bates between them got 2 goals to make it 4-2. Probably the most memorable game ever apart from the Wimbledon replay.
evening loakesey i wasnt blaming the ref entirely we had enough chances to win it and who knows we could have missed both penalties,but it was nil nil at the time and would have changed the game had we scored from one or both of them but thats football.
